The bit where it says select copy and then select paste just aint happening for me, I don't see any of the text to click onto, I've had a Photobucket account for a few years, I,ve uploaded loads of pics to the bucket, I just cant seem to get then onto this site, all I get is "file invalid" its doing my bloody head in, plus the fact i'm a silver surfer!!

I'm not sure if it works on all platforms, but on windows, you can just click on the text adjacent to where it says IMG, it then automatically copies the http address to your "clipboard". Then just paste (CTRL + V) into the message box on here.

Transferring photo's from photobucket no longer works for me with an iPad , but works with a lap top if you have plenty of time.

With photobucket now employing all sorts of limitations on usage that basically prevents users from hosting images there and embedding them here, an alternative has been suggested:

http://www.imgur.com

You can create an account here

To upload a photo click "new post" and follow the instructions/drag and drop your image.

Give it a title, hit "publish to community" in the top right - at which point (if this is your first photo on imgur) it'll want you to verify your email address. Check your spam if you don't see the email and click the link to verify your email address.

Once verified, you can see your image and will, if you click on it, see a menu with a variety of choices of types of links. You need to hit "copy" on the BBCode option as shown.

Image

Then just hit ctrl+V within your post to embed the image.

Once you're verified, you just need to log in, select "Images" from the drop down menu on your username (top right of the screen) and click "add images" to upload more.

Thanks Jules, what restrictions are being applied? My posted Photobucket pics are still in place but I have seen 'Upgrade your account' images all over UKS.

Edit: Not to worry, TfatC posted a link discussing the changes maybe it's something they are rolling out and will soon affect me https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... 681485&i=0 :)

Apparently PB have posted an update here, which explains why linked images are still working for some people:
Quote:
If you were a Plus Account subscriber in good standing as of June 1, 2017, you will continue to have all the privileges you have enjoyed including 3rd Party Hosting until December 31, 2018 as long as you maintain your subscription.
... so it'll keep working for a bit longer (enough to transfer the images and put alternative arrangements in place) ...

My images are huge; is it possible to restrict width using html rather than resizing them?

I tried using this VERY basic html and this forum doesn't recognise it.

<img src="https://image.ibb.co/hQ4giw/22119535_10155202150532739_1616812523_o.jpg" alt="Smiley face" width="700" height="100%">

Not ideal!

I want to post pictures for my restoration thread and thought I had it sorted using my Googlephotos account, alas from another computer they do not appear :*)

What is the current preferred method for posting photos on the site?

Watch out that the default on many phones is to embed the location the photo was taken at. If you have something particularly precious you may not want to include that bit of info.

This may help those who want to resize photos on their phone. Lifted from my other post.

I have an app called (unimaginatively) "Reduce Photo Size" on my (android) phone. It's free, errm, basic and does what it's supposed to. I only use it to resize photos to upload the UKS from my phone.

Further to the information in this thread regarding using imgur and the issues with uploading from phones and resizing, I found a website here which gave a trick - add "l" (lower case L) to the end of the filename, for instance (note that the links come from the webpage I linked to):

Code:
[img]https://i.imgur.com/VqZHKl.jpg[/img]

instead of
Code:
[img]https://i.imgur.com/VqZHK.jpg[/img]

This saves the trouble of resizing the images before uploading :-)
