10th Anniversary Meet of the UKS Scottish Christmas Lunch

Date: Sunday 11th December 2016
Time: Meet from 12 midday, eat c 1pm
Cost: £20/head, (£5 deposit/person). Menu to follow.
Venue: Fernie Castle, Fife, Scotland
Please add your name to the list on following pages of this thread if you are serious about coming along.

Background

So,
Round to that time of year again.
Time to agree date and book a venue for the 2016 Scottish UKS Xmas lunch.

Last year this was held at Fife Airport.
Where will we end up this year I wonder?

Wherever we go, if I do the usual vid for the meet, it will be the 10th one I have done, so we really should agree on somewhere good!!

If anyone has an idea for a great venue (ideally a decent size car park as usually c 30-40 go), then post your ideas here. Ideally a link to the venue if possible so all can see it.

Need to decide and book over the next 3 weeks max.

I have organised many of these in the past, lets hear your ideas.
Am sure anywhere within Scotland considered.
Local = handy but no decent run
Afield = chance to convoy and have some fun.

I was thinking about Crammond in Edinburgh.
The Brig or the Inn are both nice.
Would mean central belt location.

I will post link as time allows.

Have a think, get your opinion in.

Cheery

I've been wondering if there would be one this year.
Diary is filling up but hopefully it won't clash.

Funnily enough I was just thinking about this last night, was wondering if it was time to start organising .

Never been to either of those but trust your judgement :p .

My suggestions would either be Loch Lomond area (though quite a mission for those in the North East) or somewhere near Crieff or Pitlochry (though I doubt my favourite, Mackies, would manage us all  ). Both give opportunity for a nice wee run too.
Mind you I'm happy to go with the masses, after all it's all about the company, aye..... :park: :park:

Actually, another suggestion, the Beancross in Falkirk, we go there quite often when visiting Louise's folks, always been pretty decent!

Was wondering when this would pop up :D as always it will depend on the date, last couple of years it hasn't fallen kindly for me.

Regards Venue i think our nothern members should choose, after all year after year they have travelled down to the central belt.

Kev I agree 3 weeks would need to be the max for date and venue, earlier would be preferable

Hi guys,
I'm still hoping to make it to one of these, perhaps 2016 is the one !
Can't do 3rd/4th, but other weekends in Dec look OK at the moment.
The further north the better for me  - Edzell's not bad (120 miles over the Lecht :loco: )

Nice one Kev, was thinking about this one night last week, wondering where we should have it.

Cramond Brig sounds good, but a bit of a hoof down again for the North Eastern contingent.

Edzell was an excellent location, good parking, and good food.

I'm happy to go with the consensus on whatever is decided, I'd plump for the North East somewhere as I think it's our turn to travel

Anytime or place will suit me.

Up north would be grand.

Actually,

The more I think about it, the more I think Perth makes sense this year.
Far enough to have fun on a convoy from both directions, but evenly matched...ish between e.g. Aberdeen and Edinburgh

Does anyone live near to, or know a good place to eat festive fare and has a good sized car park near or in Perth?
C 40 heads.

Not having been to one of these, I'm not sure what type of venue we typically aim for (local restaurant/inn, 'chain' pub, or something different ?).
For starters (ie an opening gambit, not just the first course :D ), how about:
- The Luncarty Inn (local pub, just north of Perth off A9);
- The Maltings (a Greene-King pub/restaurant - just off A9 on northern approach to Perth - Xmas Menu 2 courses/£12.99);
or if you fancy something different - The Black Watch Museum at Balhousie Castle, off North Inch, Good Cafe/Restaurant - Festive Menu due soon, £17 for 2 courses £20 for 3).
No idea if these would cater for the numbers involved, but all have ample parking and ease of access.

Derek
