I believe that there was some sort of study done in the past that suggested that the best location for the annual meeting was inside an area bounded by A1, M62, M6, M5 & M4.

However, looking at the years since the 2013 International and including next year, only two venues have met that criteria.

I wonder if there would be more take-up and interest from people with families if the events were organised in conjunction with something else? Not necessarily another car club. We had some success with a local event that was alongside a craft fair, it was building up year on year, but the craft fair failed due to circumstances beyond our control. But the cars in conjunction with the Kimbolton Country Fayre was a success. These are usually one day events, but maybe used as the centrepiece of a Saab weekend, it could work.

It isn't that the organisers of the post-international events have been selfish or biased.
As I said, it's constantly getting harder to find venues and volunteers.
Considering the study, the problem hasn't been getting people to attend. The last few Saab fests have been some of the best attended, ever.

It wasn't so much a study as a decision taken at an AGM way back (possibly in the 90s ??) based on common sense, given the demographics of the club. I'm well aware of how much effort is involved in planning and running these events, having done it myself, and I'm by no means having a dig at any of those who volunteered and made the effort to create something for other members to enjoy.

Once upon a time there were branches queuing up to organise a National. These days, it's clear that not many people are willing to put themselves out. That's a real shame. I think if there was a closer relationship with the branches and more trust in the Board there might be more volunteers, but it seems to me that the work we did a few years ago to sort out the club finances and create a better relationship with branches has withered on the vine.
