Lads and Lassies,

i've just purchased a new sony headunit to fit into my Saab 9-3 but have encountered a problem. The original headunit won’t come out past a certain point, it seems like its catching on something and no matter how much force i use, it won’t budge.

i used a screwdriver and a torx bit to slowly yank the headunit out and expose the 4 clips (2 on each side), this could have also been done using a DIN tool but I didn’t have one. Do you guys have any ideas to help me remove this, Im not sure if the cage is bent or if I have missed out some crucial step that’s preventing it from being removed.

Have you tried removing the sid unit or acc unit and get your hand behind to try and pull it out?

Yes I have, If you look at the picture in the original post, ive removed the heater control and SID and tried to push from the back. It didnt move at all, also I think I bent the cage for the SID and now that doesn't fit flush :wall: .

I pulled it with some force ;) but to no avail. I even used a flathead to try and pry up around the cage and pull at the same time. No luck at all.

That’s weird I used the proper removal tool and mine came out without a problem.

From memory, the cage has tabs bent out and punched sections, needs to be removed after the radio with the top, bottom and sides bent in. The radio really needs the release 'keys' inserted to release it from the cage and then some brute force from the rear.
