Looks like I've picked up the bad luck charm :(

Fuel pumps given up the ghost and I've broken the connection line to end my chances of going.

Needed to get it MOT'd today and gets some miles under its belt so time has beat me I'm afraid.

How's it going guys?

Did I hear that The lovely Natalie's scoobies failed? Shame. Tough circuit Marham.....

Saw little clip of Ylee's Clan starting up which Bev had taken.
Hope it's going well. Despite its lack of weight, I imagine brakes might be interesting!

You need to get on Facebook, Kev...

All seems fine with the Clan, issues with trailer and punctures on the way home but George has given Kwik Zhit some folding beer vouchers to sort.

I've recovered enough to put a few words together for everyone...barely though lol.

Having spent the last few weeks preparing both my Aero and Natalie's Scooby, even taking last week off work to concentrate on the final things as her car has been sorn'd for nearly a year. Was still working on it fri eve, yes the very night before the big day, till past midnight sorting out a last minute cv boot failure getting around it by trying out one of those stickyboot thingys.

4:15am alarm call and as nearly everything was loaded the night before, was an easy 5:15 departure. A gentle cruise up was in order as Scooby binge drinking starts at 71mph, way below empty motorway saab cruising speeds. Our true wake up call was just before 6 as we both enjoyed the sweet music we made blasting through Dartford tunnel.....Scoobies do sound damn evil ha!

Quick fuel stop at Tesco's a few miles south of Marham and parked up at the airbase soon after 8. Wasn't long before Ylee spotted us and popped over, turns out we parked not far away. Wouldn't of mattered anyway since I think the entire paddock new when the clan fired into action, sounds awesome that thing!

Sat down for the mandatory briefing. But having been before and new the form of just how laid back and relaxed this event is, I couldn't help but take notice of the other participants pre conceptions of the day. It rapidly became clear that a large portion of drivers here are used to the ever tightening regulatory bodies regular TDO's have become. Pedantic questions being fired to the speakers about overtaking etc. Even a request from the back wanting us to be overtaken by invitation only, yes at somewhere like Cadwell but here....you will find out I thought to myself.
Final question was where do we get noise tested. The answer was given swiftly and with a straight face ''You all passed as you came in'' With that the entire atmosphere changed and everyone looked relaxed and ready to enjoy a day off honing around the airfield.

I'm not one for the boring sighting laps but this one was obligatory and my god, was it needed! The new circuit layout is, and I cant stress this enough, is so much better and challenging then the old one ever could be!! Its got everything the signature over a mile long straight, long sweeping tightening corners and a very (read extremely) tight, slow and twisty section..slow as in sub 30mph! Reminds me of an autotest competition route, very nice touch.

We opted to wait a little for the eager beavers to go out first before we ventured out. But the circuit was red flagged as frequently as you'd expect at that time of day. We managed to get out there soon before 11 taking things steady but building speed slowly as for reasons that will become clear in a few weeks I don't want either car broken. My aim of the day was just to go out there and have a giggle, not hoon as hard as I usually do.
Shortly before lunch we went out again, we planned for Nat to follow me for 2 laps then i'll follow her for laps 3&4 so we can get some half decent footage of each other. Soon after we swapped places I noticed and smelt a lot of tyre smoke and it was coming from her cars nearside rear. Odd I thought as we are on a straight bit right now. Flashed my lights and after a small delay we coasted back in. Jacked it up and found the inside of the tyre had been rubbing on the newly fitted coilovers! Simple fix though, found the nuts holding everything in place had loosened slightly and given a little too much camber.

After lunch the circuit was reversed. We had just sat down for lunch ourselves as cars cued for the sighting laps. I remember saying ''Officially we should be going out with them'' Stuffing my face with cheeseburger. So we left my Aero in the paddock and jumped in the Scooby and joined in the convoy for the not so slow 2 laps....still enjoying our cheesburgers and can of Dr Pepper. Where else in the country can you do this ha!

We waited a little for the track to quieten down before we ventured out. 1st lap was a real attention grabber it is a completely new track and I even got a little lost lol. 2nd lap and as I exited the tight section I looked back and had that sinking feeling when I saw Nats Scooby limping slowly at the edge of the track. Trouble is, this section is now at the beginning of the lap so had to do almost a complete circuit before the pits. I slowed right down too hoping she can catch up, but at 30mph that circuit is the longest and loneliest place to be.
Eventually got back and car up in the air again. Found the the passanger rear driveshaft had popped out of the diff :argh: Day over!
I jiggled about for a bit under there and managed to slot it back in but no way is this car going back out today. I'm just thinking about getting home without being on the back of an AA truck. Made up a very heath robinson way of holding it in using tried and tested Gaffer tape and cable ties...its only got to last as many of the 131 miles home.
We chose to make a break for it as soon as we've packed our gear up, but with everything going on it was only till we was driving out of the airbase i'd forgotten to say our goodbye's to George and Beverly

A steady and carefull drive back proved tedious but by some miracle we made it home safe and sound soon after 7pm. Shattered but overwhelmed that not only did we have an epic days adventure and with the drama's of the day our cars made sure they got us back home.

I've some video footage which I will put something together over the coming days so watch this space :D

Yeah,
Saw the track had changed a LOT since I was last there.
I see the slow bit you mention Mark....
Couple of YouTube vids up already, one a Masda MX5, the other (for Al), a B7 Audi RS4.

Paddock looked quiet though...
We're there as many cars as normal??

And

Glad you both made it home under your own steam.

Our trip went a bit better.....

Apart from the 14 hour trip down via Birmingham to pick up a gearbox and another 14 hour trip back when the trailer shredded a tyre and the spare was extremely dodgy (well hidden when we bought it ...)
The day on track was relatively uneventful ,We were just shaking down the clan and just getting used to it
Way different to a turbo nutter car ,it redlines at 9.5k and to get it to move you need to rev the nuts off it
And its rear engined ...
So completely different driving technique
It got very squirrely above 120 ...
I steadily toke the revs higher and higher ,letting the other guys overtake me
Except above 8k they were not overtaking me ...

Nothing broke ,apart from the mirror kept falling off (gaffer taped eventually)
Ran amazingly cold (58 c was the highest temp)Brakes were ok once they had bedded in but could probably do with being a bit bigger (they are MK 1 fiesta ) maybe xr2 vented ,but for normal circuits they should be fine
Car is very tight and you can just get in with a helmet
Only real issue is the hair trigger competition clutch which caused some embarrassment in the paddock
OH and it is LOUD .....

Great day
Nice people and great weather
Should be back in September ....

That's a quick Westie...runs into an aerodynamic brick wall at high speed as they all do, but still very quick in a straight line for one of them.

Compared to the last time I was there a few years back it was a lot quieter, a lot. Guessing around just 40-50 cars, thinking half of the amount we saw last time.

I've uploaded some multi-car, multi-angle footage of our filmed formation run. For some reason my chasecam from Nat's Impreza failed to record, also, with everything going on I forgot to take my camcorder off active stability mode too. :wall:
Anyway, out form the pits the 1st lap is a little slow then gradually built speed ready for lap 3 while still in attack formation...maybe I will be less gentle next time I visit eh.
