I did thanks Phil and got some good advice too - some car he's got there.

The problem for me is that while I want my car to be well sorted, I don't want to compromise with things like cooling etc. The way I was going meant that I'd be losing my Rad Fans and would also have had to have shifted my Rad forward to accommodate the Turbo, which after looking into it, I'm not prepared to do as the reliability and driveability could be severely affected.

I was chatting with Giles at Abbott regarding the cold air intake pipe and we got talking about my build and what I'm trying to achieve. Later on that day, he called me back and made a couple of very interesting suggestions. So I've sent the turbo and manifold spacer down to them so they can play, with a view to modding the turbo to make it fit without losing the fans or moving the rad.

Currently I'm going to keep the standard manifold, just while its all fettled, but I've found a Tubular that fits without moving the turbo, so once the turbos in, I should be able to swap them like for like!

Should be very interesting!- I hope! :argh:

:corn: So what housing is Giles gonna fit so this thing actually clears the block and stops the need for you to move everything forward into you rad space ?? :park:

At this precise moment I don't know, I don't think Abbott do either, but they're going to mock everything up on their block and do the necessary to make everything fit without losing anything. They're making my cold air intake and Oil & Water lines too, so all being well, I'll just get it back and bolt everything straight in.

No doubt the cold side housing will be smaller, but I think the small amount of outright power trade off is going to be far more worth it as the car will still have everything that it needs regarding fans etc.

Going to be an interesting week or so I reckon! :corn:

Indeed I haven't bud - However in my defence I have A) Abbott - and B) Spanner Neil - and C) Noobtune (whoever he is!) - and D) Ade - who between us I reckon on having at least half a chance?

If not - may I refer the honourable gentleman to convo we had in the Pub this afternoon regarding 25L of Thinners and a Box of Matches! - I thank-you!

Besides Abbott are mocking the whole thing up on their own block where its all being measured and fettled to make sure it all goes in - they're using the same format that they use for the GT2871R kit they do, which is a direct bolt on replacement - so that'll do for me! - I have no doubt that they've got some work to do, but Giles was adamant they could do it so we'll have to wait and see.

I'm now changing my forum name to Meat-Glass Half Full-Feast!

 :loco: I hope you got a firm quote in writing before sending your stuff off. Otherwise the price is likely to be A MILLION BILLION TRILLION POUNDS OF PURE GOLD...

I guess if money is no object to ya, then you'll be fine. But personally, I don't like being fleeced -- hence why I avoid AR like the plague.

Having chatted with Giles most days last week, I've told him what my budget is and that if its going to be more then I'm not in a position to have the work done - he was adamant that they could do it within my budget.

I think its going to involve changing the Compressor Housing, fitting the Manifold spacer and turbo to their block and then fabricating a Cold Air Intake pipe, but we think the standard design they use for the 2871R kit they already produce will fit. I'm also getting the Oil and Water lines too.

The bottom line is that the turbo must fit with the Rad fans in situ and they're pretty sure that they can do it.

Just gotta wait and see now!

Shame on you!!!! Fancy sending it away to be fabbed.

Me and Mark@9000parts usually have a good look in my engine bay, shake our heads, have a glass of coke then have some battered chips and eventually get the angle grinder out. Job done. Happy days :)

Well fellas - sadly I don't have the mechanical nous to do it myself and as I need the car on the road as its my daily driver, I need to keep the fab work to a minimum wherever I can, I've no way of mocking it up off of the car and help was offered so I took it.

The problem was that the Turbo was never going to fit without losing my fans and moving the Rad so it was Hobsons choice really, I wasn't prepared to do half a job or start cutting the car to pieces or botch things together.

I want this done asap with as little fuss as I can manage - as I don't handle stress very well.

If that makes me a :cen: or even a :cen: :cen: , then so be it.

And as for the 'Cheatfeast' Moniker - I have no idea why I'm cheating? - all I want is my turbo to fit properly, work properly, look like it was fitted with some care and attention and to not affect the overall reliability of my car - I'd rather have that than some Helen Keller bodge job anyday!

Dunno yet bud - theres still a fair bit to do before the Turbo goes in, Brakes, Clutch etc, just trying to get everything done in order, my brakes can't cope with what the car is putting out now, so its essential that I can stop the thing properly before I make it any quicker.

I'm on a stock Aero clutch, albeit new last year, but I'm on the edge of what that can do too - I've ordered a Spec Clutch and I'm after an Abbott Flywheel atm, so it'd be good to have those in too and it'll all probably end up being fitted as one job, Turbo, Clutch & Flywheel over a couple of days - hope its raining when we do it, wouldn't seem appropriate if it wasn't, or minus 5 at least!

As yet I've not heard from Abbotts, but I'll get a call into them later, I'm in no mad rush tbh simply because I want to get everything else organised as best I can in the meantime - funds permitting of course!

With a bit of luck I'd like it all done before the National in July, just have to wait and see

Yamas!.

Continuing with the 'Bling' thing - I found that the car was performing well but looked pretty drab under the bonnet - so I decided to buy a used Rocker Cover and have it polished along with the Manifold Heat Shield. - I'm not into full Bling but I wanted the engine to stand out a little, so I was very happy with the results, I like the way the top of the Taliaferro Cobra Pipe kind of blends in with the polishing work.
hey mate where did you get the camcover done?
