Brief history
My second C900
Image
Loved this to bits but it hated me. First engine lasted three months or so after muppet head here wrecked it(long story). Replacement engine from a famous Saab S/hand parts supplier arrived in a worse state. 60,000 miles my posterior!!!!! So they replace that engine with one with a duff HG. Great customer service there eh!! Still they replaced that one again. Was cool, gave me lots of practise in engine removal. Numerous gearboxes and engines later i decided enough was enough. Or the burnt oil smoke screen behind me on track at knockhill decided that one.
Purchased this little number off Ebay for the outrageously high price of £400.

Only problem being Im in Glasgow it was in Salisbury! Thanks to Alan Forsyth(where arte you mate?) we travelled down and back in one day. Sorted
Next day tried to start it to move out of workshop.... nothing. Fuel pump gone. Talk about lucky. All the way back to Glasgow without stopping was a good idea.
Stripped my white T16 for all the good bits and ended up with this
Image
Not too shaby.
Unfortunately its not in such good condition now. Been broken into twice wrecking door locks and doorskins. Bumpers have been used for parking target practise by the unliscensed immigrants at my old high rise flat. Passenger door bares the scars of a disagreement with a mini digger. Its a mess.
Bought a Scarabe green T16s for £500 with a blown engine, plan was to use the shell for all my good bits from the Exlpt. Bought in the dark....oh oh!!! Front end was rotten, not bad, but I really didnt like the drivers side chassis leg. Without major surgery any repairs wouldnt last long on the salty west coast roads. Its now history and going to help my Exlpt back to recovery.

So now for the project part. Im well on the way to a T5 set up. Most parts gathered including a Td04 turbo.
Few bits of rust to deal with first though. Maybe swap some doors too.
The rust

Never dealt with bodywork before so im a bit nervous. Hopefully BIRDIES latest project will keep me on the right track.
The arch is my only major problem I see. Tried to cut an arch off the scabby green car. My grinder gave up the ghost and the shell goes this week. Im hoping to maybe just take the worst of the rusty metal out the arch and whack the Aero arch extension over. See no evil etc.... Is this a bad idea??????
Dont expect quick progress here though. My Mrs is studying for her Honours so all my home time is looking after my lil boy. Unfortunately he is only 1 so helping me is not an option lol

Whether you do the arches properly or clean off rust and weld what's left will not affect the way the car looks or behaves but..............you will always know it's there :argh:

Looks a worthwhile project, good luck. :D :D

My red car has a lot of rust around the boot lock, the hole iv shown goes a lot further under the lock. The boot lid on the green one is twisted out of shape and won't seal. Just cut the lock out and a whole lot of panel with a view to make a repair on the red one.
Don't worry wee man only gets let loose in back garden. All gated up. Shell will be gone soon. Thankfully. Don't think the neighbours are too impressed lol.

Won't seal, if it's twisted, they twist back, lift tailgate, grab hold of each corner and twist it, give it some........then adjust the top hinges to drop the leading edge down a little............to late now though.

That looks like a lot of work! Good luck.

My daughter is only two but she loves using the brush to clean my wheels! Saves my back. :)

Tried all that Rob. It was at top corner. Something must have been jammed in the gap then bootlid closed. Paint was cracked where it had creased a bit.

Right. Little update. Plans have changed several times now. So much so that I now have a black T16 to modify and using the LPT for parts.
Got the suspension stripped out from the LPT. Fitted fronts to the Black T16 in under an hour. No spring compressors or WD40 required. Just a jack some axle stands and a five inch grinder. Ground the top of the struts out and chopped the springs in half. The lowered springs just pop in and the Konis are an easy fit too. Rears not fitted yet as I have started on some rust repairs arghhhh still only at the back around the lower arches and boot floor so nothing structural required phew!!!!

Installed my 9k Aero seats last month so progress is as slow as usual.

Only one just now. Got rid of Scabby green a while back. Been offered two others recently but the girlfriend would kill me lol. Not been making money back on the parts either, I dont have the time to strip and despatch the stuff others need. My LPT should hopefully be gone this or next month. Most bits on it will be getting refurbed for good spares to sit on my shelfs.

Been copying your mirrors John, Made a complete mess of it though. Now on my third attempt. Me and spray cans dont work well.

The T16 is an FPT. Not that you would know it though. SLOOOOW as........... a standard T16 lol. Will put my other engine in ASAP. Picked the car up with a slipping clutch, the owner thought it was normal lol. The wheels are lovely. Just need to try and strip the clear coat from the rims. Lots of nasty white blisters spoiling them.

Yeah used halfords plastic primer. Wanted a smooth finish though so redone them with high build primer then flatted down. Started painting them then it started to tip it down outside. By the time I got back in there were spots and runs on them. :( Flatted down again then painted them. One fell over in my box and landed ontop of my air vents (painting them too) all smudged and marks all over DOH!!!

happy days. been there done..........
i used my shed to paint some stuff but you cant breathe after a while, the half a stuffed full garage was used to paint my mirrors. it helps to have a spare set-i have several- to take the pressure off whilst you prepare and paint them. i used a hair dryer to sort of heat flash them to help prevent any runs.

i got some iced cream tubs upturned to balance the mirrors on the bench. its fairly stable and easy to spin using one hand so its easier to get a good coverage of paint all over.

Been a long time since I was last updating. Lots happened but im still nowhere near done yet. Decided to get rid of my jeep and purchase a cavalier.... sorry 9-3 aero. 51 plate with 70,000 miles on it, no mods. Now running stage 1 so quick enough.

Sold the perfectly good engine, box and turbo from the black T16 to Mantagonist after he picked up a bargain with a knackered engine. Popped my modded engine in its place intending to just get it up and running as standard so i could use the car. A week later changed my mind and pulled it all back out again  So there the story ended for a while. Till this month i have got a bit of motivation. Have made up most of the braided oil and water lines. Prepared the TD04 to fit to the engine, fitted the CPS wheel to the engine and fitted the blank at the dizzy slot. Should be putting it back in this weekend if all goes to plan.

Progress has slowed again. Engine is back in. Had wanted to do a few more things before it went in but had to give the hoist back.
Turbo oil and water lines completed

Craig,

According to my wiring diagram, switched 12v is pin No.2, it'll be marked somewhere on at least the plug.

It's probably the middle one, I haven't had a look. On a 9000, the wire colour is green/red.

The other way o check, to be sure, is that pin 1 on the BCV plug goes to pin 26 on the T5 plug, and pin 3 on the BCV goes to pin 2 on the T5 plug. Pin 2 is switched 12v.
