After nearly 10 years of ownership and adventures over Europe and Scandinavia, my once red and now pink Carlsson has spent the last 18 months as a bollard at my mothers blocking access to the garage to keep my Cobra safe. During this time, it has always started first time and driven in and out when I have needed to get the Cobra out.

Last year I decided that I would get it fully restored, as I am unlikely to get the time to do it myself for another 5 or 10 years as was the original plan. I started to collect panels for it with the plan on taking it to Dan at Paradise Saabs. Unfortunately, just as the set became almost complete, Dan decided that the time for him to close had arrived, so back onto the back boiler went the Carlsson.

After talking to a good friend (and 9000 owner) who runs his own workshop doing LPG installations amongst other things, and who recommissioned my Rover P5b, it was agreed he would take on the car. There is no time schedule, as he will fit it around other work, and I am not is a rush, but I will document the work done here as and when.

Hopefully the Solstad will be on the road from tomorrow, so the plan is to take the Carlsson down to Simon later in the week. Last night I took a few photos of her in her current, sorry, state to show the starting point! More here sometime soon I hope.

Yuk! It's even pinker now than when I saw it last. When he's painting it, would a base-coat/lacquer finish stop it from turning pink again? It always looked very smart when polished, although I've never been a fan of the 900 Carlsson body-kit. Good luck with it! 8)

Crickey Nick - this certainly going to be an epic build. I for one will be watching with interest.

All this post-car-career lurking about on the internet makes me want to do one final 99 or 900 project. Probably a 99 2-door.

It will be remaining red, as everyone knows that is the fastest colour (and I already have a black Saab or two)

As is the way with these projects, things conspired against me, so I have only just dropped her off with Simon for the project to start. As has happened everytime he goes quiet and I leave a car with him, work picks up! He has enopugh to keep him occupied for the next month, so progress will be slow, but at least it can start now, and she is under cover.

A couple of pictures from the drop off, and at least she went in style! 8) The last photo is of her tucked into the workshop for the night, a couple of jobs were scheduled to be collected the next morning leaving access to the 4 post ramp clear. I will have to nag Simon for updated photographs.

It will be as and when, although Simons workshop is not huge so I doubt he will want it hanging around too long...

Time for an update as work has started! 8)

The body kit is off so we can see what is lurking below. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised, especially the state of the rear wings and quarters, I was expecting a lot more rot. The front wings are shot, but I have replacements, I was lucky enough to get one brand new factory one and I salvaged the nearly new one off "Orca" when that one was scrapped. The front panel is very rusty and also suffered deer impact so will have to see if I have a better one at home when I get back or see if I can find a new one!
