Mission accomplished! The SRD SAAB excells at the Ring, in May 2010, all according to plan. A wheel bearing gave up, so we got a total of 7 laps before retiring, but it was more than enough to be bitten by the Nürburgringmania. It´s an awesome track.

The SAAB managed to kill several Porsches and Aston Martins, but had a hard time keeping up with the upgraded M3´s. Still, we are more than happy with what SAAB did. Enjoy.

Thank you very much. Car is back in the workshop. Time to take the car to the next level. It will no longer be a street-legal car, so in goes the roll cage and fuel cell.

Its Looking good mate :envy:

I noticed that the back end of your car is higher than the front do you find it helps on the track :D

No, unfortunately it´s an original bad design, so I can not lower the car any more. I will have to redesign the rear end to be able to lower it further. It oversteers quite heavily, so there´s a lot to gain from a lowered rear end.

For all those with dreams of a SAAB race car, here´s a good start, a brand new shell, used as mock-up by a SAAB-supplier for making body panels.

Just needs - everything :)

Hi

Our goal is to participate in the Yokohama Cup in Sweden 2011. That means we need to be race ready by spring, April.

Next week I´ll get the roll cage.

Very nice lap of the North Loop. Great to see a serious Saab there.

Your car in current form goes very good, seems the acceleration at higher rpms is excellent, you need to work on improving the lower rpm performance/decrease turbo spool up or simply find a way to run at higher revs such as altering the gearing or finding more top end rpms. I know you are preparing a race engine though so likely will sort all this.

At full speed on corners did the rear end feel light/trying to break traction, or judging from the sounds were the front tyres at the limit of their grip? Seemed you were well slower on the transition corners, could be down to the other drivers knowing the ring better though.

Are you allowed composite fenders & front bonnet in your series? Loosing weight up front is all important for Saabs. Have you spoken to Volker at http://www.saab-blog.com ? He has built a serious 9k to attack the Ring, might have some insights to share.

Please post a full specification for us when you are ready for your series, looks to be one fast 9-3!!

Spot on, mate. The car, when cornering hard, is to light in the rear, and it needs to come down, as mentioned previously. Once the suspension mods are done, we will corner-weigh it and spend time calibrating. But at the monent, we´ve reached the limit of what can be done without a re-construction of the rear end

here you can follow the daily development of the car

What is the roof scoop for? Just to let air into cabin, or is there some aerodynamic function to it?
