Not worried about overspray on the fuel tank etc as that's going to be dropped anyway.

The bodyshop I use is over 10 miles away from my workshop. The bodyshell needed to be movable as a rolling shell and I felt it was better to get the body painted before the new suspension components were fitted. That would avoid any accidental overspray getting on the fresh suspension setup. Trying to paint the arches with suspension in place would have been a very poor option.
If the paintwork and mechanicals were all done in one place then obviously everything would have been removed and refitted in one go. But rather than compromise on the paint I decided that a professional bodyshop with the correct equipemt (full size spray booths and ovens etc) would be used.

Dan.

Dan,

Interested to know if you are replacing all the door and boot seals with new - and if so whether you have found any suitable non-saab alternatives. I looked at getting some replacements for the door and boot and rear quarters and was stunned by the price.

thanks.

The front suspension was removed, along with steering rack and front anti-roll bar.
No corrosion in driveshaft tunnels, nore at the rear lower edges of the engine bay, just a build up of oily muck from over the years. these areas where stripped, rustproofed and overpainted, followed by a generous dose of waxoyl.

The new brakes and suspension were then fitted, after applying waxoyl to the inner arches and driveshaft tunnels (as seen by the orangey colour on the paint - thats 'clear' waxoyl!)
new brake pipes and hoses still to fit.
