A couple of photos of my very original and very clean Saab 99 GL 5speed. Back on the road after 25 year in dry storage. Fully recommissioned, Headlining replaced, EMS/turbo steering wheel, reconditioned Inca alloys and a turbo front spoiler (not fitted yet).

Nice!

Find a set of Twin Carbs from a 900 GLs to add a little more pep :-)
That's what I did to my 1982 white 99GL

My dad had a classic 900 GLs Auto back in the 1980’s, it used fly from a standstill.. Twin carbs would be great! :D

There are, but thise are for a B engine, Inlet manifold will bolt up fin, but leak like a sieve due to the 'bump' between the 2 sets of intake tubes.

Needles are also 5EJ's not 5EQ's which the H uses.

Mine too, but a manual. It's the first time It's the first time I remember seeing 100MPH indicated on a speedo, I must have been about 7 or 8 years old at the time.

Thanks for all the comments, looking forward to the summer to start driving it more... Just been checking how many 1983 99GL’s are left on the road in the UK... it seems only 13!!, And apart from a scattering of turbo Combi Coupe’s the standard Combi has almost gone!! Then if you look further in to how many of each colour there are Wow!! Why? They were built so well with a loyal following?

Thinking of putting the hockey stick stripe in black on the car.. What do you think?

Personally I'm not a fan of the hockey stick stripe, especially with the lower trim strips, there's too much black trim.
But it's your car so do whatever makes you happy :)

If did not have the side trims I would have said yes.

Spent the last couple of days cleaning the front of the 99 ready to fit a turbo front spoiler and more retro, and I think much nicer pre 1983 front grill.

Also fitted some pre 1983 side Louver trims thanks to flying-Dutchman. :D
