You're all correct! It's been a proper journey with TR but Tommy has been a star. I'd never fail to recommend him to anyone.
Watch this space! It'll be back with me soon!

Still no further along with the original garage which caused this merry hell but if there's no goodwill gesture from them to cover my out of pocket labour expenses for the job of doing the chains then I make their life very difficult through social media, Google reviews and sharing the dashcam footage and story on YouTube+sharing on facebook in as many Saab groups as possible.

I don't expect them to cover everything as i had extra work done at the same time (oil pressure switch and waterpump for instance) but i expect them to contribute since it's work which wouldn't have been carried out but for their skipping the timing.

Big day yesterday! Went to see Tommy to collect the car.

So very glad to have her back up and running! Just need to bed in the clutch and then we're all good.

Image

Frankly he and the team have been awesome and done so much over the past few months to get this car up to speed. It got the full works including all fluids changed, air con regas and 4 wheel alignment. The replacement engine seems well balanced and doesn't give much spitting or afterfire when cold revving. I'll be keeping an eye on it and changing anything else as and when required but with new plugs and recent coils and all ancillaries transferred from the old engine, I'm confident we won't have problems!
Very happy to recommend TR Autos to anyone needing a Saab specialist. Knows his stuff and a fully paid up member of the SOC.

Not quite although I did get an "original Saab" lunch/cool bag so it's not all bad!

It's been lovely having the car back. I've been tackling those jobs which have been building up on the car but not required immediate attention.

The front splitter was first. I distributed a squirrel across the A22 earlier this year and totally fractured the front splitter.

Image

Fibreglassed it behind and between the fissure, then clamped it overnight for the fibreglass to set in place.

Image

Once that had set I filled the gap with isopon flexible bumper fill.

Image

And knocked it back with 240, 400, 600, 800, 1200, 2000 grit discs blending in half the front splitter.

Image

After that it was just a case of mask, prime and paint.

Image

Image

Decent result for sure as goes a temporary fix since I'll be repainting the entire splitter this coming summer. It also highlights the the benefit of a 170 black car - simple to touch in and no lacquer required.
On to the next job when I can find the time!

We're great thanks! Hope the same is true of you and yours? CoViD has been and gone here, I changed jobs last August from a construction supplies role into a team management role for a company which manufactures viral research plastics so I've never been busier. The time has flown.

But I've also been busy...
I had the turbo from the old breaker vehicle. It was a mess, but I had a contact at a well known turbo rebuilders so off it went.

Image
Image

It's now sporting a 19T billet compressor wheel and has been fully balanced.
Frankly, it's a thing of beauty and it's a shame to send it into an area of the car where it will never be appreciated, but oh well!

Image
Image
Image

To compliment this, I have a set of 550CC injectors (flow matched of course).

Image

My original intention had been never to take the car beyond stage 3+ which I presumed to be somewhere in the region of 330hp. I had therefore fitted an intercooler which would support this, but with the new turbo now back, it was clear I needed to increase the capacity.
A quick series of conversations with those in the know told me all i needed to hear - the core needs to displace 3L per 100hp to remain effective. My current cooler is 6.7L, my new one is 11.9L. The turbo builder reckons 390hp from my turbo is possible so I'm in limit.

Anyway, out with the old, in with the new.

Image
Image
Image
Image

At the same time, I Decided to fit a honeycombe grille with an addition of my own

Image
Image

Whilst the bumper was off, I thought I'd deal with the issue of the broken bumper support posts and also attempt to match the honeycombe Hirsch style grille I'd fitted.
So fibreglass and a few weights to hold it in place.

Image
Image

I then trimmed back the plastic surround around the bumper posts and cut some Hex mesh to suit the scoop.

Image
Image
Image

I picked up a black strut brace, which I painted to match the engine bay colours. I have now painted the air intake shield and cam cover.

Image
Image
Image

I've now turned my attention to fitting the new turbo and injectors.
After the battery box was removed:
Image

I wrestled the turbo out and we're in business.

Image

The new turbo will have a new recirc valve and boost control valve, along with a Turbosmart actuator which I'm awaiting to complete the install.
So in the meantime, I have begun replacing all the exhaust hanger bushes with polyurethene versions. These are universals which I am drilling out to 16mm so they fit the Saab's hangers.

Image

So far, both the rear boxes have their hangers replaced. Just need to do the centre and cat so that's only 3 left to do.

Ditto.

I know what you mean about the turbo, shame to hide it away. Grill and front end look really good.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Gents, absolutely SWMBO gets attention :-D.

I suppose there's enough evidence in that we had our 3rd born in January and celebrated our 10 year anniversary late last year. She's supportive on one hobby. I let my guitars, PlayStation and other creative hobbies fall by the wayside so therefore am permitted to focus a little more on the Saab.
Incidentally, the car was laid up for about 3 months without so much as a garage door opening so these things go in fits and starts.

Will be on the quest for meet ups when all this has blown over that's for sure.
