Hi all,
I've had this car about 6 weeks now and am loving every minute! It's a 2006 2.8 V6 turbo and it don't half pull!
Image

She was a trade in and sold to clear so the price reflected this. To me, she looks like she's been mechanically maintained well, but cosmetically had seen a few cheap car washes and car park battles, so I've got my work cut out if I'm going to revive her! It appears that all parts which have been replaced have been OEM so there's no doubt she's been maintained to a reasonable level.
Immediately after getting her serviced I set about making a few remedial changes...

1st thing: replace those peeled badges with colour-coded black ones.

And the clouded and dirty centre caps (again with black badged ones)

Then, upgraded all indicator bulbs to Chrome, the Xenon bulbs to 8000K and the sidelight bulbs to 7000K 501s - looks rather tidy now :D.

This evening, I installed LED lighting in the centre storage where the cigar lighter socket is located (it feeds off the pos and neg to the lighter and its small bulb which permits it to dim with the night panel)

There are still a few things to get sorted

1) install door handle LED lighting
2) CD player feed doesn't work (attempted both repairs covered on multiple Saab forums with no success :( ) - DONE
3) Treat the roof as it has some green patches and spots in it - DONE
4) rear bumper has sustained an injury in the past and needs fixing (I have a plan! and a friend!) - DONE
5) Fit SPA! purchased, just need to figure out how... - DONE
6) Fit iridium spark plugs so I can run my... -DONE
7) Stage 1 JZW tune, which has recently landed on my doormat :D - DONE (Now Stage 3)
8 ) Repair a small tear in the rear seat - DONE
9) Repair several small tears in the vinyl around the vehicle.
10) uprate clutch and flywheel
11) consider Quaife LSD...

Loads still to do, but I love fettling!

Looks quite tidy in photos. Will be interesting to see mods/upgrades you carry out :) Where did you get your black wheel badges from? I've got carbon badges to go on my bonnet and boot - but could be interested in black ones maybe

Thanks mate. I got the wheel caps off eBay. They are basically a GM 63mm centre cap with a resin domed badge over the top.

The bonnet and boot badges are a domed bit of metal which looks to be printed in a superlatant way and then heavily lacquered - again off eBay. I bought a front and rear badge kit for the 9-3 saloon 03-07, and simply stuck the discs onto the peeled badges. A small blob of araldite put my mind at rest.

I was tempted by carbon, but it's not really the type of car for it (although if I recall, you have a vinyl dash wrap in carbon which did suit your 9-3). I prefer the sleeper look, and with a planned 356 horsepower from jzw's stage 3+, I'm aiming for as stock an outside look as possible with only a couple of hints :-D

Yeah it took me a while to settle on the carbon wrap on my dash binnacle. I will be getting other bits done in carbon too, and a few bits in matt black to set it off slightly. Not too sure which wheel badges to go with - black like your's or carbon :? You'll be going down the route of 3" DP and uprated intercooler then? And a few select other pieces of performance enhancing equipment

No one outside of the Saab world will be expecting a Vert to have 356BHP

Not many inside the saab world would either I reckon :-D. A mate of mine who likes his fast motors wasn't especially interested until he heard it had the 2.8T in it. Funny how people's appreciation changes.

Looks nice 8)

When's the map going on? Your in for a treat, stage 1 feels crazy fast compared to standard :park:

Brakes....100% look and some sort of brake upgrade. Mtec dics, yelow stuff pads, HEL lines & rbf600 fluid is a decent upgrade over standard, or try and find some Veccy VXR 345 calipers & carriers on eBay, new discs and DS2500 pads (plus lines & fluid) Really nice upgrade :D

have you got a link to the LED strips you used on the dash pocket, I've been thinking of doing this for some time

Thanka for the kind comments guys.
Dai - Maps going on this Saturday I hope. Gotta do the plugs and learned tonight that I don't have a 16mm or 14mm plug socket (whatever these are) so need to wander to a motor factors tomorrow. I'm sticking with GM pads and discs for the front and will service then repaint the calipers on Thursday :-D

Boxman, the ones I used are these http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 33&alt=web

But being candid, any 12v strip led will do. I might run over mine with a bit of permanent pen to dim it a bit.

No probs Boxman.

NGK LFR7AIX plugs installed this afternoon. Took an hour or so to change all 6.
JZW stage 1 aggressive tune uploaded. Came with free smiles!
Absolutely awesome mod. Recommend JZW highly.

Cheers Martin. Had that thought today funnily enough. I've always run super in this car but I'll make an effort to tank up with vpower from now on. 99octane isn't it?!

Thanks! I'm happy with how it panning out so far.

With respect to time for plug change, I was concerned at first but I needn't have been - I'm used to working on sportsbikes where they pack a load of stuff on top of cam covers and frames seem to forever be shrinking. Once I clocked I had to remove the ecu it was a simple case of pulling things out carefully. The rear bank took 45 to 50 minutes.

As it happens (you must be telepathic) I did kane an audi S3 the other day but I reckon I got a better launch since he just spun the wheels. I noticed he started backing off as I was a good car length ahead and seemed to be pulling away. Got the thumbs up at the end of the carriageway section, really don't think he was expecting that performance.
Worth the remap money? Yes. Definitely. No doubt!

In other news checked pads and discs (still a few thousand miles in there so I left them back on). Whilst there, I spotted the calipers looking a bit rusty and sad so...(top = before, bottom = after)

Image

I also ran a scotchbrite pad over each wheel nut to brighten them back up. Tidied the fronts up nicely. Now need to do the rears to match.
