We finally decided to used an original Saab exhaust. We shortened the centre silencer by 120mm, this enabled us to use the original mounting points.

We also chose not to have an exposed tail pipe so we have used a tail pipe from a 9-3 diesel where the pipe points down towards to the ground.

Work has also started on the dash where we have mock fitted the clock set, SID and all other items needed before its moulded and wrapped in leather.

So the engine is in place and the car starts, runs and drives! No more pushing it around the workshop!

The dash along with the centre console and glove compartment have been mock fitted to the car.

FYI the glove compartment section has only been thrown in to give us a visual.

Image

The cabin air intake system has been mocked up with a wooden template, the final structure will be rounded off and made of fibre glass.

Image

We have also fitted the engine air intake system with a small performance air filter.

Ah - we've come to the exciting part of the build ;-). That's got to be worth another 20bhp.

Joking aside, even that bit is rather pretty.

We wished!! If you could gain 20bhp by changing the cabin filter we would all be at it!!

Its a pain doing such detailed work that doesnt result in a power gain, but its one of the first things you will see with the bonnet open.

Woodwork and metalwork was definitely one of our strongest subjects! :geek:

A lot of time has gone into the casing as mentioned above. We will now be wrapping it in fibreglass to make a solid unit that can easily be installed and removed when normal servicing is being carried out.

That filter box will look great when it's finished :)
One question, what made you decide to go with the 9-3 dashboard ?
I was thinking a modified 96 dash with maybe a 9-3 centre console would have been easier.

Keep up the good work !

We can see your logic as we did that with the 96ss. Our reason for going the 9-3 route was to enable us to carry on with all the electrics, for example the fan motor, heater box, stereo and SID.

If you could see how far the heater box protrudes compared with the 96 dash you would be able to see why we did it this way.

We did try!! :)

Apologies for the delay! Due to a "transition period" between the 2 warehouses there has been little time for work on the 96!!

We have been concentrating on fitting the 9-3 98-02 dash. We have had to modify this heavily in order to fit including cutting, plastic welding, fibre glassing, fibre matting and many other bits and bobs needed when making this much of a modification.

See below images of our progress,

Next on the list is fitting the doors and making the door cards!

The dash fascia has been trimmed down and reshaved to fit the new modified dash.

We still need to reposition the head lamp switch low down on the right side. Once this has been done the dash and fascia will be covered in leather and the other, maybe, in satin black.
