MANY WEEKENDS OF SANDING ENGINE BAY COMPONENTS DOWN,AND RE-PAINTING THEM.....TEDIOUS SOUL DESTROYING STUFF...

THE ORIGINAL LOOM HAD BEEN COMPLETELY REMOVED,FOR ENGINE BAY RESTORATION. IT TOOK A DAY TO CLEAN IT ALL UP,REMOVE SOME OF THE 'HEAT-OVER TIME' HARDENED WIRING SHEATHING,THAT RUNS TO THE STARTER MOTOR,AND THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH.ENGINE TEMP SENDER...

NOW SOME BITS RE-FITTED,TO THE PREVIOUSLY BARE REPAINTED ENGINE BAY.....BRAKE LINES,BRAKE SERVO,THROTTLE LINKAGE,STARTER MOTOR,ENGINE&GEARBOX STAYS,WIPER MOTOR,TWIN COILS....

SLOW PROGRESS.

I HAVE DECIDED TO RE-FIT THE ORIGINAL HEATER BOX,BUT IT WILL TAKE MANY WEEKENDS,OF REFURBISHING....

MORNING CHAPS,
ROUTING OF THE MAIN WIRING LOOM UNDER THE RADIATOR,AND OVER TO THE STARTER MOTOR&OIL PRESSURE SWITCH/ENGINE TEMP.SENSOR LEAVES IT VERY EXPOSED TO HEAT? THE ORIGINAL SAAB STUFF,HAD BECOME VERY HARDENED& BRITTLE IN THIS AREA.

BEFORE I INSTALL THE RADIATOR,I REALLY WANTED TO SORT THIS OUT.ORIGINALLY THIS SECTION OF THE WIRING LOOM IS KEPT IN PLACE BY SPRUNG CLIPS FROM THE FACTORY,WHICH INEVITABLY SCRATCH THE PAINTWORK DOWN TO THE METAL WHEN INSTALLED

BEING A COMPETITION CAR BUILD,I NEED THE LOOM TO BE PROTECTED AND SECURE. SO SUITABLE DAIMETERS/LENGTHS OF 'DEI' HEAT SHEATHING WERE ACQUIRED.

THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR PLUGS,WERE CAREFULLY DISMANTLED FOR THE NEARSIDE HEADLAMP&INDICATOR/SIDELAMP,SUCH THAT SECTIONS OF THE 'NEW' SHEATHING COULD BE MEASURED&CUT,AND CAREFULLY SLID OVER THE WIRING LOOM,TO RE-CREATE THE HARDENED&BRITTLE ORIGINAL BLACK PLASTIC SHEATHING.

CAREFULLY CABLE TIED,AND THEN HELD SECURELY IN PLACE WITH STAINLESS 'P' CLIPS,AND OF COURSE STAINLESS FASTENERS,THIS ALL TOOK UP AROUND A WHOLE AFTERNOON.FIDDLY TIME-CONSUMING STUFF.....

NEXT UP IS THE ROUTING/WIRING OF THE 'AUTOLEC' ELECTRICAL KILL SWITCH,AND BATTERY WIRING...
THIS WIRING ALSO RUNS IN PROXIMITY TO THE EXHAUST DOWNPIPE,SO WILL NEED PROTECTIVE SHEATHING,AND TO BE SECURELY FASTENED,BEFOE IT ENTERS THE COCKPIT,VIA THE BULKHEAD.

IT SHOULD BE REMEBERED HERE,THAT THE ELECTRICAL KILL SWITCH(AUTOLEC) NOT ONLY MUST INTERUPT THE BATTERY SUPPLY,TO THE STARTER MOTOR? BUT,ALSO THE ALTERNATOR SUPPLY.

OTHERWISE,WHEN YOU KILL THE POWER TO THE BATTERY,THE ENGINE WILL KEEP RUNNING ON THE ALTERNATOR POWER SUPPLY ALONE....
