This is my 1974 99 EMS and is a car I've admired since I was aware it existed, little did I think I'd ever own it.
this car owes it's existence and originality to the persistence of Madwelshman of this forum, not least for keeping, troubleshooting, and tuning the original D-Jet injection, which there really isn't all that much information out there to go on.

So, a price was agreed, and I booked a train down to Pembrokeshire, the floods came, travel got hard so I booked another a week later and headed down for it. Will picked me up and showed me how it should be driven, showed me his other Saabs, made me coffee and I was on my way!
And after a lovely drive through the night it was home! No hassle, loads of torque, and as comfy as the couch

some more photos, some before the trip, some after. Drivers seat needs a repair but luckily I've a new old stock cover

Great to see you've added a thread on here for her Ian and like I said, I'm glad it's gone to a really good home.
Needless to say, I'll be following any updates with interest.

Will

No progress on this but as producing Scotch is now defined as key work I took the EMS to work tonight, what a car, it’s just lovely! It goes like a train, it’s more comfortable than the couch.

My favourite incarnation of the 99, I'm not at all :envy: :envy:

I had always admired this car, and though I wasn't really in a position to buy it I jumped when Will spoke about selling it.
I spent a night and a good bit of a day on the train to go and get it and it was well worth it.

As there's another 99 currently getting surgery in the shed I'll be a minute before I get to this one, so I've given it a service and protected the odd bits of rust to save it going backwards in the meantime.
One thing it will need is an expansion tank, I could've sworn I'd one in stock :?

With plenty time on my hands and waiting for materials for other projects it had occurred to me that I could do a few of the repairs that the car needs but to a standard I'd be happy with to not have to revisit them when the car gets painted
The front of this arch was crusty in the usual place, the rest of the arch is fantastic
this car is very original so I am doing my best to keep as much of the original steel as I can.

the wire wheel revealed this
Imagehttps://flic.kr/p/2j4zWy4 by ianlaw99, on Flickr

so a part larger than the area was made, to then trim down
Card template time (PS the floor is wet as I'd just changed the expansion tank

After a bit of persuasion I had this, made bigger intentionally because it's easier to trim than to add a bit, tried up for size, getting there

ImageUntitled by ianlaw99, on Flickr

Cut out, tub cleaned up and treated with PhosKleen B from Rust.co.uk, great stuff
ImageUntitled by ianlaw99, on Flickr

Trimmed a bit more and nearly ready to weld in, bottom edge got refolded after this

ImageUntitled by ianlaw99, on Flickr

Welded in and treated again with Phoskleen B, it's not far off

Thank you, I'm trying to do it to the best of my ability and keep as much of the original car as possible, it's good fun :D
without a doubt the shrinker/stretcher and the press brake attachment for the vice, both from Frost Restoration (but borrowed from Dad) are tools that make doing these little panels quite easy and satisfying

Great and skilled work as always Ian.
So pleased with your plans and the way you're going about the resto/tidy up on this.
She's gonna be lovely and like your blue 4dr, very solid once you finish it.

Thanks for the kind words, it's a privilege to work on such a rare car, more so due to the originality. In some senses it deserves a full proper restoration, but at the same time the car has such an original and together feel, so to repair and refinish where necessary only is the route we're going I suppose, it would never be the same again if it were fully scattered :D
