Sorry, I should have explained, I want you get it running so I can get it to a Saab mechanic friend in Cambridge before the mot runs out

Brave to take that on! Unfortunately its not taxed in this day and age, you have to tax on purchase (or SORN if more applicable). Does the MOT still count if its Cat S?

RE mot: I rang the DVA and they told me that there is no requirement for a written off vehicle to have an MOT or any other test to be deemed roadworthy. Seems mental but it is true, it is up to you to ensure your vehicle is fixed. However, insurers may ask for a fresh MOT to ensure the vehicle is fit for purpose again.

Regarding the brave(stupid) element, I’m not in this to make money (obviously), I’m doing this to have a rolling project to try and get the car back somewhere close to how it should be, over hopefully, many years of ownership. I’m keen to save a car that would have otherwise probably been broken for parts.
I know that it would have been far far less hassle and money to just buy the grey one that’s up for £7,250, but where’s the fun in that?
(I may find that there’s no fun in what I’m proposing to do, but I’m willing to find out!)

She lives! Managed to hook her up to a spare battery and she fired straight up and settled into a steady idle. Couldn’t run her for very long as the radiator is split and empty, but all the electrics seem to work (except the headlights lols). The Jetex 2.5 sounds lovely too - what a car. I’ll try and upload to YouTube.

Pocking around and the rust doesn’t seem too bad.
The oil is nice and clean and the brakes work, despite rusty discs, there aren’t any lips.
Unfortunately the power steering reservoir got crunched in the accident and seems to be nla, if anyone has one, I’m open for business.
I didn’t notice that the distributor cap was slightly pushed over by the fact that the radiator has been pushed back and as a result the rotor has punched a hole in the side of it. Off to saabits for yet more parts.
More to follow, but well pleased so far.

Thanks Doc, plus the covid mot news means she’s got a ticket for 7 more months, which is a bonus.

I came close to buying this car back in October, but ended up buying a red T16 that was a few less pounds, had a few less miles and had an Abbott Exhaust! I did love the look of this flat front one though and the previous owner seemed to be gutted to have to sell it. Must have been even more gutted after the accident.

That’s interesting pjk, I’ve managed to find the advert that he put up, do you happen to remember what he had it up for out of interest?

Got a fair few bits stripped off her today - what’s left of the headlights and indicators and got the rad and ancillaries free as much as one can when they are squashed in. Still quite impressed by her overall state.

Stripped most the rest of the front off - as you can see she’s f&@!ed!

Now I’ve got to get all jigged out by someone who actually knows what they are doing!

But first it’s engine out and rust treatment and paint etc.

In the meantime I’ve got to find pretty much the entire front end furniture for a slope fronted aero.

I maybe some time ...

Yes, and judging by the amount of concrete I found, I’d say it was definitely into a wall. Once I find the previous owner, I’ll ask (with tact and compassion), exactly what happened.

To keep my spirits up, I remind myself that she’s got some rather nice bits on the intact parts of her, I list them here for your (my) amusement:

APC red box
Jetex 2.5 exhaust in v good condition
Lovely Super Aero wheels
Good leather interior
Extra dial set, all 3 of which seem to work
Headlining a bit grubby but intact and stuck down
Er, that’s it ...

I’m pretty sure when it was first up on carandclassic that he wanted £7500, that was back in October. Around November he dropped it to £6500, that’s when I got in touch. Had a good chat with him, seemed like a really nice guy. It was far enough from me that I didn’t immediately go and look at it, plus it had a few things that needed doing that would have pushed the price back up. It was on eBay as well, so I just chucked in a bid of about £4750. Bidding ended with reserve not met. He later offered it to me for £5500 I think, but by then I had found the car I went on to buy.

I might have his contact details somewhere, if I do I could see if he’d mind you getting in touch?

Cheers, Paul

Thanks so much Paul, that’s very interesting indeed. If you could ‘reach out’ to the PO, it would be much appreciated, thank you. It’s more to have a chat with him and see if he has even a scrap of history (I don’t think there’s much). Also, he might like to know that his car in (relatively) safe hands.

So, I searched my old emails and have found the messages that I had with the PO. I will get in touch with him for you.

Also found this link to the expired ad on carandclassic which gives some detail you might not have: https://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1155789

Paul, thank you again; I found the ad but not in this format. I hope he’s keen to talk. Thanks a million

No worries! (You have PM)

Just noticed your previous car history at the bottom of your messages - I am also a former 9-5 Aero estate and 911 owner! (not a turbo though, just a '77 coupe)
