It sounds as if I'm not doing much but I spend quite a lot of time doing little jobs. Today, for example, on the leading inner edge of the sun roof had been a very small amount of corrosion when I bought the car. At the time I rubbed it down and painted it with rust converter and then Hammerite. Today I removed the rubber surround and applied Bilt Hamber so that will not be a problem again. Also a little more detailing under the bonnet and applied leather balm to the seats. All the little jobs add up to a car looking very good and not 17 years old.

Swapped the driver's seat with one of similar colour and spec but better leather from my local scrapyard but unfortunately the seat heater isn't as effective as the previous one. Some cold mornings when having no heater fan meant the inside of the windscreen stayed frozen longer. So another visit to the scrapyard for a heater fan and that's fitted now. Within moments of starting the car I now have a warm interior to the car. A little bit of lacquer had lifted on a rear wheel arch, rained then a frost so it lifted a bit more. Will get a Chips Away man to sort it when the weather gets better.

Oh, have bought reg number S23 GTO to go on it. I can see it becoming not my daily driver.

Despite the existing budget tyres having plenty of tread on them I've now fitted new Uniroyal Rainsport 3s on the car. What a difference was noticeable immediately.

Having put the GTO number plate on the car, I'm asked what does it mean. My response is to Google the acronyms for GTO and some tongue in cheek ones come up. It's done for a bit of fun, not being serious.

Getting Too Old.
Grand Touring Over.
Get Them Out.
Etc.

Maybe I should have the most appropriate one sign written on the car?

Thought I'd list one of my BMW to show how I'm getting on with that. Hopefully I'm around for a few more years so it's very much a work in progress. There is no Rust on the car at all.

The interior is the special bit as I've fitted black Touring leather back seats and Z4 black leather front seats. Shopped around scrapyards for door card inserts, had custom mats made up in Germany, front end Powerflexed, Ansa new old stock BMW 2002 exhaust suitably modded, steering wheel air bag deleted and recovered by Royal Steering Wheels who I used for a Saab wheel shown on here a while back. 8.5 " wheels on the back and 7.5" on the front with Avon XV7s. Looking to source a Becker CD head unit and black alcantara headlining.Image

Have not posted much here lately re the 9-5 but not because I've been doing nothing. Just busy with work five/six days a week and using the 9-5. Have now bought another Jeep for everyday driving so it frees time up for the 9-5. Awful weather for photos at the moment .
Recently fitted Eibach and Powerflex bits. Have now sourced a 9-5 boot spoiler. Will get that painted and fitted before Xmas. Not sure whether to fit an Aero front spoiler or an after market one from Germany. Do like the way it sits now on lowered springs. I haven't fitted shocks as yet because I was dithering what to go for but have now decided on B6s. Picked these up today, one offs made by a mate for me.Image
Should look good when fitted. Have decided to go with black silicon hoses now. Dithering again on colour but going for subtle not bling.

Reading back over previous posts I see lots of things I've talked about but still not done. My only excuse is that I've been using the car as my daily driver over the last eight months and time to put it in the garage has been scarce. Most importantly I've enjoyed driving it. It's getting done and maybe the next three months, not being used, will see more done to it.

Updated head unit with a Blaupunkt Hamburg 420bt so I can use my phone with hands free. The sound is better than my previous Alpine. Also had a wire installed so my TomTom is constantly charged without having to plug into the cigarette lighter.

Fitted new bonnet and boot Saab badges.

Having 5 spoke 17" offset41mm alloys fitted to my Rainsport3s on Tuesday. Should be a lot easier to clean than my Aeros.

Very pleased with the stance of the car. The Eibach springs lowered it just enough and the 9-3 wheels I've just fitted fill out the arches better. Good advice I received on here for those alloys as I was considering spacers.

I find it fascinating doing one improvement at a time and then going out for a drive. The ever so slightly track increase is noticeable and definitely an improvement. The front end to be Powerflexed next together with the Aero arb. Back end was done when fitting the rear Aero anti roll bar.

Then the big expense of purchasing Bilsteins but that will be a noticeable improvement too.

Then braking system but that's all ok at the moment. I'll just upgrade the standard size items this year. Likewise just finishing off cosmetics.

Next year it's engine, gearbox, lsd.


I can't think of selling it now. I've added up what I've spent in the two years I've owned it and I could get a later car for that money but now it's more than just an every day car and will be more so as time goes on. I've had several Jeeps since I joined UKS and will get another as my every day car fairly soon.

All in all, my 9-5 journey so far has been lots of doubt about whether she is the old girl I want for keeps. Certainly she has proved herself to be an attractive Swedish model, if a little late in life, and on a daily basis she has entertained and looked after me. Pampering her has proved a worthwhile expense and by doing so she has shown that she can surprise me and maybe she will still be around in a few years. A little like Britt Ekland and Maud Adams. Maybe they are more 9000 than 9-5 but I'm sure you get my meaning.
