An economy commute tank of diesel has given me over 700 miles. Very happy with that, especially as it wasn't a brimmed tank.
I was running on vapors by the end....

Agree about the tyres, need to ditch them before they ditch the car. Ha. The fronts are down to 4mm now, so time to change all round soon.

A long over due up date on the DE. Now just over 99400 miles and counting.

Caught the mileage a few days ago:

Since the last update I've had the following work done:

Service x2
Cambelt, water pump and tensioners
Thermostat
OS whole drive shaft
Fitted ash tray delete
Replaced shark fin aerial

And today I've collected some Aero Anniversary alloys off a fellow UKS user.

A quick clean of one and an offer up so see what it will look like:

The current alloys are past their sell by date, a bit of bubbling, some scuffs:

I'm also thinking the silver alloys suit the blue of the car better, or maybe I'm just ready for a change!

Before fitting the wheels I need to adjust the hand brake and paint the hubs with Hammerite.

Ready to roll over 100k this week....

They can be very frugal.

This was end of journey, and pretty low, but I've had over 725m too before.

Agreed, takes some sedate driving but a decent mpg can be achieved. Averaging 48.7 over this month so far.

Thanks to James Vey on here I acquired a different set of alloys, so changed them over today.
Adjusted the handbrake as well.
Tidied up the hubs and calipers with some smooth silver Hammerite.
Has smarted the old girl up no end I think.

Another years MOT ticket today. Bless the old gal for keeping on going!
Advisory on the usual engine cover and an odd one regarding front brake fluctuation. Will ask what that means when I pay for it in the morning.

The wheels you have fitted are ALU 71s and came from a 9-3 Aero of around 2007/8 vintage, I have three in my back garden, the fourth being in the boot of my old 9-5 estate. The wheels all belong to the new owner.

You can find the designations of Saab wheels here http://saabarchive.net/index.php/w/wdb

I think they are Aero Anniversary alloys from that age. Certainly seen them on 9-5s as well as 9-3s.

Brake fluctuation is a slightly warped disc apparently, nothing bad but result of cheap disks and heat. Will get round to changing them in the spring I think.
It’s good to have another 12 months on an older car.

The link I posted says they were standard equipment on the 9-3 A60, which is obviously the 60th Anniversary edition. I am not sure there was an anniversary 9-5, I had the wheels on three 9-5s always with 235/45 tyres.

Had to change the power steering cooler pipe as the original had rusted and created a hole. Failed approaching an island on Sunday morning, thankfully a very quiet morning, no traffic around. Pretty scary moment to be fair.....steering....steering.....no steering!
Up on axle stands for two days while the WD soaked the unions, one on the sub frame was rusty and looked troublesome.
All came off ok though, had to bodge the new pipe on slightly, but all sealed and working again.
The Dame lives to drive for another year (or until it decides to test me again......).

After a drive to Banbury this morning I checked the mpg, averaged 55.7mpg. Not too shabby for a big old bus. Just keeping up with middle lane traffic.
Running 37psi up front and 35 on the rear, slightly higher so this will aid fuel efficiency.

The join on the new power steering pipe is still weeping. Not where I joined it to the old pipe, but on the union supplied with the pipe. Looks like I’m going to have to drain it off and re-do this joint. Annoying.

There was; I have one 8) Fitted with ALU 74s - just like the black saloon in one of the pics on that wheel web site.

Update on the 9-5:

Had to have the off-side front wheel bearing/hub changed before Xmas. Grumbling away for a few weeks, mis-diagnosed as tyre wear issues for a while. Couldn't get the hub nut off, so gave up and let the garage do the job. A well spent £40 cash.

Oddly the power steering fluid weeping stopped for a month, checked the fluid level religiously, and hadn't moved at all. This weekend I did over 600 miles, checked this morning and it had dropped 5-8mm. So topped it up. No way am I going under the car in this weather, it is going to have to seriously warm up before I take the number and under tray off to get at the join.

12 months after changing the rear parking sensor and badly fitting the rear bumper I finally got round to re-fitting it properly. I'm ashamed it took so long.

Had two new tyres on the back 2 months ago, have now ordered two new tyres for the front.

104,800 miles on the clock currently. Not rising anywhere near as quick as it had done in the previous 18 months. Had 67,400 when I bough it exactly 23 months ago.

Changed the front wiper blades. Exciting update indeed.

Still comfy, managed 49.5mpg round trip to Bristol today, so as economical as ever, for a big old thing. Two years in my ownership new month, the longest I have ever owned a car..... Getting very, very itchy feet now, looking at 9-3TX on the net..... But maybe, maybe time for another make of car, possibly.
