Has anybody else had a problem with rusty strike plates? The ones on my 9-3 Aero Convertible look absolutely naff, they're not completely rusted to pieces, just have a rust line on the facing edges. Can't make my mind up whether to take them off and clean them up and respray them or try and source replacements.

The other thing is when having a quick read of the WIS it says the some 9-3's have a cover over the striking plate, does anyone know if a 2005 9-3 Aero vert should have them?

I'd take them off and give them a coating of bilt hamber deox-c And then spray them again.

I'm not taking the wee or anything but I think personally that is disgusting on a 30k+ car, mine are like brand spanking new still and it's 20years old.

Seriously, that striker plate is made from cheap jack steel and no different to cheapo Korean cars from yesteryear, same with the screws, complete and utter bottom of the shelf automotive c r a p. Appauling quality I'm afraid :wall:

I replaced them in the end, when I took them off to start work on them they had rust underneath and I wasn't confident I could get rid of it all, so it would only reappear, didn't cost very much either.

On to the next project, corrosion on the wing mirror mounts !
