Assume that your hooking up the US spec lighting (side repeater lights)
If so fronts should be orange, rears red

johno... are those l.e.d strips in the bottom of the 9-5's head lights? i keep looking and thinking do i or dont i? but the ones i have seen tend to look a bit naff glued on the headlight.

there seems to be millions of suggestions about opening the headlights up and cooking them in the oven for things such as angel eyes and what not... i have a 9-3ss pre snout lift. the casings are plastic... i'm just wondering about where i'd place them and if i'd have to open up the casings? then theres those damned fault lights and sid has a dicky fit!

any ideas?

Hiya matey.
Yep, they are LED strips.
They shouldnt cause SID any problems or start flashing up fault lights.
Mine havent & Ive got them all over the place, led's in the headlights, mirrors, side winkers, fog lights & Ive even placed some in the switches.
Philsaab gave me the idea, he even made my door mirrors up for me & I dont think hes had any bother with his either.

The 9-5's headlamps are all plastic to so that shouldnt be a problem.
Mounting them, well thats up to you, glue, double sided stickey tape or pads.

The led strips are from http://www.crazyleds.co.uk & are cheap enough, you can cut them to length & just about bend them into any shape you like.

Ive not really looked at the 9-3 headlights, but I wouldnt have thought there would be much different to the 9-5 ones with regards to space or shape matey.

nice one johno, thats a great help... pictures too. i wonder though... do your lights self level? if i put them inside high up like the current nose job ss', would it interfere with the leveling motion?

Yes, mine do self level...Well, via the dash switch if that what you mean but I had no problems with the lens movement.

I rekon it would look good with the led's running along the top, like I say Ive no idea how much room is in the 9-3 headlamp, but they fit on the 9-5.
I did have them in a square but it was to much & looked silly so I took the top row out & trimmed the botton ones.

Im a bit embarrased to post this next pic again...But what the heck!

well johno, i just want to go play with the left over christmas lights now... you've set something off. lol.
as for the self leveling part... they are actually self leveling... as in when you start the car they automatically level them selves. h.i.d's i think.

thinking about it, those l.e.d strips would have looked awsome on the bumper i built last year... under the lower fogs perhaps? page 63 ''my cool car'' the blue cabrio. what would you think?

i had a nosey on the web site you posted and got some white "side emitting" s.m.d's... they sit neatly across the top of the 9-3's light casing without having to open the light cluster up. plus they are hidden too as theres a rubber seal across the lip of the bonnet front. was a little worried about those info messages "bulb out" etc but there weren't any... so im a happy chappy. well i was until the plod gave me a £60 fine for speeding. :wall:

I fit an LED strip to my 9-3, I took the head light glass off and stuck them along the top of the glass. Did look pretty awesome but only cost 99p delivered from Hong Kong so didn't last too long... they were slightly too short to fill the top too
I was looking at those side emitting LED's, they're 0nly £9.99... are they any good?

I'm currently using some LED side light bulbs (5 LED's I think?) but have been thinking about putting them in the indicator lense and also in the fog lights as I noticed a blank in them too... Is it an easy enough job Johno?
Any problems with MOT or PC Plod? (I'm guessing not as the Galaxy's and Minis have them lights fitted too :geek: )

Dead easy to fit them into the fogs & indicators matey, so long as you can get the rubber type bulb holders so they self seal in the hole you drill.
Ive not had any problems with plod or the mot man so Im guessing they are ok.

the ones i used were side emitting smd's... i just sat them on top of the light cluster and theyre invisible. theyre not super bright but bright enough to notice the extra light. plus theyre flat too so theyll sit pretty much anywhere.

those led cluster bulbs... i had some in the old 9-3 without any problems but one by one the led's went out... when i put them in the new 9-3 it threw up all sorts of "bulb out" messages on the dash. they also flashed intermittently for 5 minutes after locking the car. weird but pretty! these smd strips do it but its just for a few moments.

the smd strips i bought were £15 for two 60cm strips... when they arrived i found they were wired at both ends and able to cut every third light. so i now have four smd strips... two 40cm one on the head lights and two 20cm strips left over... im wondering if they'll look too chavvy if i slot some over the fogs???

I measured and I think I need 30cm to go along the top of the headlight. The cheap ones I got were around 20cm, I was playing with the idea of putting them on the top of the fog light cut out... Merc spec. I just couldn't get mine to the shape I wanted so never did it. I did position them there and it did look pretty awesome!

Robinmorley, they look awesome!!!!! Where did you get them from? How are they wired? I want some!!

yeah my old man has a viggen, think they were around 30cm... try this link, its where i got mine. i know when i positioned mine across the top of the head light i was worried they wouldnt stay in place but when i stuck them down with double sided tape they stayed put...
