Only noticed this today.
Seems to be a whine or hum coming from the front (possibly drivers side) of the engine
First I thought it was coming from the dash vent, then maybe a bad grounding as I have recently swapped over the stereo
Switched off both and stopped the car - the whine was still there :argh:

Started driving and then no noise, then a while later noise, then away again :wall:

Doesnt seem to be dependant on revs (as it kept doing it once car stopped - with engine running) and its not particulary loud, just annoying....and intermittent

Turbo swapped over about 15 months ago and sump dropped at the same time(was fine) so hopefully not that :x

Also, was only serviced less than a month ago and nothng unusual noted..

Any suggestions please chaps ?

Cheers
Paul

How long did it run with the engine stopped?

I'm wondering if it's the pressure relief on the cooling system? Maybe a faulty cap.

I can't think what else would carry on with the engine off or one of the aircon flaps moving, they carry on after switch off.

Was the ignition key in its hole? If so the radio would be on.

Cheers for the reply
Apologies, when I say stopped the car, the engine was still running - the car was stationary.
I opened the bonnet and thats when it sounded like the noise was coming from the left hand side of the engine.

The radio I fitted has a power off so it totally switches off.

Check the pulleys on the rubber drive belt. Could be a bearing going on an idler.

Does the noise change if you turn the aircon on and off? When my aircon refrigerant went low, it whined too, but it went on and off with the aircon switch.

Doesnt seem to change with aircon on and off - usually just drive with eco mode on anyway
At first I thought it may be the aircon gas being low, then maybe the dash vents as it seemed to at first go away when I closed the vent...
Think I will get the pulleys checked..

Thanks for your help mate
