Trying to fix my headlamp wipers so looking to remove headlights. Haynes says I need to remove the bumper but a few forum posts suggest its not necessary. I've taken out all the fasteners but can't get the lights out past the bumper. Is there a knack to this or is Mr Haynes right?
Thanks for the help

Steve, i got my old ones out with the bumper still fitted fella, seemed a bit tight but they did come out. Think we have to lever them out past the wiper mechanism, its a long time ago.

Cheers Phil - might try to be a little more "assertive" with them tomorrow!

Indeed he has the dirty little blighter!

They are a tight fit, but will come out without removing the bumper.
Twist & tilt is the trick, hard to explain but there is a length of plastic trim that runs along the rear edge of the bumper that makes things tight. Twist & tilt the headlamp unit upwards & it will come out, just be careful not to snap the headlights upper mounting point/screw hole thingy on the slam panel. Only idiots like me bust those!

So it looks like UKS 1 Haynes 0 again - thanks gents.

I'll have another go with the twist and tilt method with added "assertiveness"!

Once the indicator is removed (one screw, if I remember correctly) it's three bolts and lift out. It's only the later 2001 cars that are actually the facelift 2002 models that need a bit of effort. But these don't have headlamp wipers. I took them out of my old car more than once and don't remember any problem. But it was 10 years ago!!
