Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the post subject/thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

For Tech II issues or help requests please state the following in your title ''Tech 2 help required - state issue and your location ''.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Hi all,

The interior heater fan on my 2004 Saab 9-3 SS convertible has ceased to work at any speed whatsoever.
I took out the pollen filter (filthy but not wet) and checked the motor and can spin it with my finger, but I'm not sure how "free" it should be. It spins easily enough, but doesn't "run-on" if you stop spinning it by hand.
I also checked the 40A fuse on the end of the dash and thats fine.

In a possibly related situation, the aircon pump doesn't switch on and off (i.e. the pulley solenoid isn't operating). Is that likely to be due to the failure of the fan? or is it vice versa and the fan isn't working due to the aircon pump not operating?

Hi did u solve the problem with your fan not working ?
As I think I'm having the same problem with mine .
I'm thinking that the control module has failed as not getting any power out the plug that goes into the motor .
Let me know how you got on cheers

Hi Tippy,

I did sort mine. I treated it so a liberal dousing of ACF50 (a penetrant/lubricant/corrosion resister used on motorbikes and aircraft) and replaced the filter with a clean one. Span it with my finger to move the lubricant around and it started working. It would begin a sort of high-pitch squeaking noise after a while, so i gave it another couple of sprays of lube and it has quieted down now. Don't know how long it will last.

The aircon obviously has a switch to the fan - no fan no aircon - as once the fan was running again the air con started up.
