When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the post subject/thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

Hi guys,

My 07 saab 9-3 aero v6 convertible mk1 is in limited performance mode plus stability control failiure and engine management light is also on.

When I remove the plug for the maf sensor the engine runs smooth and quiet however when plugged back in it idles up and down and cuts out!

I managed to get my hands on an OBD scanner and got the following codes, P0102 MASS OR VOLUME FLOW A CIRCUIT LOW, and P0018 CRANKSHAFT POSITION CAMSHAFT POSITION CORRELATION BANK 2 SENSOR A and P0016 crankshaft position camshaft position correlation bank 1 sensor A

I just drove the car today on a 180 mile round trip, and its basically running in limited performance mode with hardly and boost from the turbo and also showing the traction or stability control warning (not working) and engine management light aswell,

the engine is extremely smooth and almost feels like its switched off on idle at stop lights etc so im sure theres no issue with the engine however I noticed that the mass flow sensor which i added a pic of basically when unplugged the car idles fine and drives but with limited performance however when I plug the plug in the car will start and run then idle up and down then cut out or will run and idel up and down,

ive read scary things about the P0018 and P0016 codes that it could be a stretched chain or the chain could of skipped a cog etc however it runs soo smooth but no power so not sure where to start?

Would these codes show up due to the maf being unplugged?

Any info or ideas would be appreciated as i cant afford to just buy various sensors etc just to test things but would obviously like to get this sorted and hopefully its not a chain issue as I know that will be costly.

Thanks

Traction / abs / stability control is probably a wheel sensor - they use the same sensor, Tech 2 diagnostic will show which wheel.

Sorry I don't know the V6 engine.

Not familiar with the V6 engine but if it idles and runs with the MAF disconnected but is rough connected it is normally a big air leak somewhere like the IC connection hoses (split or come off), or the IC itself split and leaking. Note it is sometimes difficult to see if the hose connections have come off, you need to get under and pull them to see as they can look OK.

Thanks for the replies guys

I jacked the car up today and found that the hose thats under the air filter, im not sure if it connects to the intercooler or is just part of the air filter box but basically it was off and the metal clamp was missing so i connected it back up and put a clamp on, and now when i plug the maf it the car starts and revs around 1400 rpm for a few seconds then dies down to around 700 ish which is just righ however it doesnt sound smooth like with the maf disconnected and I took it for a spin and power was like on and off then it was like missfiring so i had to park up and unplug the maf again and it runs soo smooth but no power!
