When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the post subject/thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

For Tech II issues or help requests please state the following in your title ''Tech 2 help required - state issue and your location ''.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum, note compliant threads will be moved back when the mod/admin team next visit the Pit Lane. if your thread has been sat in the Pit Lane for 24hrs+ after editing, pm Tech II to request release)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Car Models: Saab 9-3s aero 2.0T
Hi All

I'm hoping someone may have come across this problem before and can steer me in the right direction, my apologies i think this might be a bit of a long one.

I've got a 2004 Saab 9-3 Convertible Aero 2.0T petrol (with a stage 1 hursch remap, stage 3 clutch 93K miles) which for some reason since giving it to my wife has decided it doesn't want to behave. It all started about 6 months ago and has been on and off the drive trying to solve the problem. After 20-30 minutes of driving once it is up to temperature it looses all power, the turbo gauge seems to barely move above the base line. If you pull over and turn the car off and then back on again all is well again, typically for the rest of the journey. After a week or so of this and engine warning light comes on. When i plugged it in the error was that the MAF readings were outside of parameters (or something like that).

I took it to a Saab specialist who plugged it in with a tech2 and confirmed that the MAF seemed to be the problem. Sweet new MAF in and all was perfect....for the journey home. Took it out a few days later and the gremlin was back.

Fast forward a few months as I've had a few other things on, spoke to another couple of mechanics each with their own ideas and finally figured it could be worth changing the turbo actuator valve (I hope that's what it's called, the little black box on top of the turbo actuator). This seemed to make sense as to me it sounds like an electrical problem. Also changed the spark plugs for good measure (figured it would be sods law if I didn't that it would be them) and fixed the steering pump oil seal (not related :-) ). Since then the car has been driven every day for 2 weeks, on first trial the car felt a bit under powered but i figured that was because i'm used to a different car, but my wife reported the same but we carried on.

Today it went back to no power and an engine warning light coming on, I haven't plugged it in yet but I'm going to go with a MAF report again. I'm going to plug it in once the kids have gone to bed.

I'm a good 30 miles from the nearest Saab specialist and it's the wrong way from where I work now so getting it in is a bit of a nightmare, would be great if it's something I can fix from home. I appreciate it's a difficult ask online but any ideas would be great.

My current thinking is one of the following:

vac hose
broken or rusted earth somewhere
turbo inter cooler pipe having a micro split
Sticking turbo actuator
Dirty throttle bodies
Limp home mode ( but i would have expected an error message of some kind)

Thank you in advance
