Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the post subject/thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

For Tech II issues or help requests please state the following in your title ''Tech 2 help required - state issue and your location ''.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum, note compliant threads will be moved back when the mod/admin team next visit the Pit Lane. if your thread has been sat in the Pit Lane for 24hrs+ after editing, pm Tech II to request release)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Hi, first Saab & first post.

We've been given a lovely Saab from a relative. Few body issues (mainly corroded mirror pylons which i've removed and refurbed following the guide on here - ta very much).

Major fault is a leaky roof - it seems to leak from the join between the A pillar and roof seal. Water drips inside and slowly soaks the liner, seats then carpets. Enough water messes up the central locking and windows but these come back when it dries out.

I've followed all the suggestions on other threads. I cleaned the seals (including pouring water down the drain hole in the A pillars to check they were clear), used rubber restorer and then silicone grease on seals when that didn't work. It still leaked. Then (with great difficulty) i got it in my garage for a month, dried it out, cleaned the roof, recoloured it and finally waterproofed it with fabsil gold x3 coats.

Put it outside yesterday and it is still leaking :cen:

Anyone got any other ideas to try before i turn to the garage?

I am starting to think it is a mechanical issue with the roof and frame as the roof above the doors does not fully cover the seal above the window. You can easily get your hand in under the roof through this. On other convertibles i usually see the roof nice and taut, covering the seals completely. I'll try and attach a pic underneath.

In case anyone else has this same issue - the problem was the roof hold down tension cables. Both had rotted through. Used guide on this site to replace - took 2 people, 4 hours, £75 for the parts inc delivery and customs (Convertible Guys co in the USA), plus a lot of swearing. Gives extra rigidity to roof and makes the A frame seal much tighter = dry car.

Thanks MrB, it's great info like this that gives benefit to other members...

I may be looking for a soft top for the summer and knowing issues and solutions/costs like this are a great help.
