When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.


Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

Car Model: One of the first RHD 9-5s
Not a great start to owning this car but it managed to die on me today on the way to work. First up, the engine temperature warning light came up accompanied with a flashing temperature gauge. As I pulled over to investigate the light cleared and the temp gauge went back to normal with normal temperature showing.

Pulling off the motorway and the dash then starts flashing and started showing EAC FAIL. As I pulled into the car park it died and hasnt started since. Tried starting with it on jump leads and its cranking for 2-3 seconds then stops sometimes. If I keep trying it will then crank continuously but still refuses to start.

EAC is the throttle pedal but google suggests replacing this never actually fixes the fault. Lots of other people have had all sorts of bits replaced but as is usual with the internet very few people ever report back once the problem is resolved.

My feeling is that its a wiring fault and Ford do have a TSB about early looms connectors failing. Will have to get some contact cleaner and inspect the loom. While the car is cranking the rev counter doesnt move at all but no idea if this is normal for Fords or not? The temp gauge is also showing the engine is warm even with the ambient temperature at about 6C and the car being sat for several hours.

Anybody else had this pleasure?
