Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Hi all,

I'm looking to order a brake pipe flaring tool, some pipe and some fittings in preparation of fitting my newly arrived Hel brake lines from Saabits

I have tried gently to undo the front and rear unions which connect the flexible hoses to the pipes and they are well stuck, I don't want to risk trying any harder without replacement bits to hand but the question is, are the fittings typically double flare (SAE) or single flare (DIN) type ??

Sadly I am in London and the flexible hoses are in Crewe otherwise I could probably answer this myself but that's the story and I want to get the things on order for a delivery this week if I can.

Also, has anyone here had any experience with Auprotec fittings, from Amazon (German I think) as they look good and are quite cheap (warning bells now ringing). The alternative option might be Stainless ones from Automec at £4.40 a pop !! so I am trying to avoid those, or part of a kit with pipe (but all the included fittings look a bit cheap and nasty). I'll be using them with 3/16 Cunifer pipe incidentally, not looked at where to get that yet.

So fire away with the answers please :), all advice gratefully received.
