Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Hi

I have noticed just recently that the DTE keeps resetting itself to "---- miles" when driving along. Doesn't happen all the time but at least 1/2 times a week. I can usually correct it by restarting car. Anyone know what this may signal? Please do not say CIM module is on way out!

Thanks
K

It may suggest a problem with the steering wheel controls..ie the pad buttons or ribbon cable.
You could remove the airbag and check the ribbon connector/swap out for another used one.

Strange its only the one function that you seem to have a problem with...if it was a sticky button then other setting
would be effected...logically.

Are you just looking at DTE? When it resets, check the mpg reading and the distance travelled. Do they reset too? either when being viewed or not?

The 9-3 display is slightly different to the older 9-3/9-5 which reset everything in one go. The 9-3 may only reset the displayed item. In which case I would go with the previous suggestion that the steering wheel controls are at fault and the clear button signal is being triggered.

Hi

Thanks for replies. Yes, it is just DTE, the others are fine, which struck me as weird as well.

Will have the steering wheel connections looked at. Ta
