Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Me again!

I'm having my 3" downpipe fitted on Friday and suddenly thought I should replace the rubber mountings whilst I'm at it.

Does anyone know how many and which mountings are used?

Appreciate any information as always.

Stu

The downpipe itself is held to the body with 2 rubber mounts IIRC.
They are triangular in shape and have 3 holes. Of all the rubbers I have encountered, these seem to last the best. Will more than likely be fine for reuse. Pay close attention to the rubbers further back, they seem to perish more easily.
The metal retaining clips however rot for fun

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm getting the downpipe fitted tomorrow by a Saab specialist so will hopefully have the right mounts in stock for the downpipe.

I'll be looking at a Jetex exhaust next - so will buy new exhaust rubber mountings also.

Some years ago but I found that the 3" Jetex exhaust I fitted on a 9k did not last too long, rotted from the inside and after a few years it was patched with bean cans and I eventually gave up and went back to standard.

EDIT: That was aluminiumised carbon steel, I notice they are now SS so should be OK.

They are a low grade stainless that still rusts, I'd recommend looking for something else.

Really appreciate the advice. I've done a bit of searching and you're all right. They seem to rust based on other opinions (similar to Maptun) and appear to be chromium steel not stainless - even though it states stainless on the box according to one account.

I'll need to go custom - perhaps LongLife might be an option.
