Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

Hi Guys, I need pointing in the right direction. Short story is that my front anti roll bar has snapped on my 2007 pre-facelift 9-3 convertible. A picture is below. Please offer advice on where to get a replacement, or part #'s. I am in Leicestershire. I'm open to getting used, new, aftermarket etc and look forward to any advice on doing that or where to go, how much to pay etc.

Does the Convertible use the same as the saloons?

My friendly local garage, who I use for servicing etc are going to remove the loose end and make it safe, and I'll drive very carefully till I get it replaced.

I welcome any advice on sourcing the parts and if there are any tips on fitting then feel free to share. If this has been covered by a previous post then please feel free to give me the link, I could not find it using the search, but that does not mean it does not exist.

Thanks for any help and advice given.

Paul.

If you look on the "VIN Label" at the bottom of the middle door pillar, you will see a row of codes along the bottom. If you tell us what these are, we can work out the anti-roll bar - hopefully!! Open the front door and it's just above the door sill.

Looks like this one from my 9-5. The front anti-roll bar code is the third code along. In my case it's "J", but yours will be different.

Phew! That's cheaper than the £180 for a new one. I'll have a look.

Any tips on fitting? Can the ARB be wigged through or do you need to drop any of the sub frame?

Thinking about the failure, I'm wondering if this (let's call it standard) ARB goes through more load on a Vert and using the same as the other models might have lead to the failure or maybe I've just been unlucky on this one. The snap looks clean, and I can't see any obvious flaws.

Cheers for the ongoing help.

I think its just unlucky time/wear/tear failure. Or some previous owner has clobberd the front suspension or neglected the links replacement. Perhaps a good check of the whole fron strut/arms is in order?

Not too hard a job just a bit fiddily....I assume you took it off?
You were unlucky or its had a whack as its a rare item to fail.

Check your front alignment (two pairs of axle stands and some string...youtube) that should tell you
if something untoward has happened previously.

ARB arrived today from e b a y. I've given it to my local indi garage to fit. I'll ask them to check alignments etc. Cheers for the help.

All sorted. £20 from E b a y. Garage fitted it without having to drop the sub frame, they had to reorder the mounts as the wrong ones came first time. No signs of damage to any other bits. But all sorted now. Cheers for the help.
