Forum rules

When you put a new thread up in the Workshop please put your car's year and model in the thread title, along with just a brief indicator of the problem.

Car Year - Car Model: Brief description of issue. EXAMPLE- 1999 9-3. Problems starting when hot.

Please also add as much information as you can about the problem, to your post.

This will help us to help you, without having to ask basic details such as what car you have.

Threads with non-compliant titles will be moved to The Pit Lane (in which no replies can be posted, but the OP can edit the thread - upon which the thread will be released to the workshop forum)

Nb. Generic thread titles for truly generic issues that genuinely are not model or variant specific (such as "how do I change the spring in an forge wastegate actuator") are acceptable

**The first 5 posts for new users require individual moderator approval (which they will only get it if they are in line the rules of the forum). Please be patient and allow time for that to happen, and avoid duplicate postings.**

1st time out in the dark with it tonight, went to put main beam on but it only stays on if you hold the stalk back to the first 'click', let go and goes back to dipped beam.
Any ideas?

Yes the switch pack has failed...you will need to remove the cim module and swap in a replacement.

I had the exact same issue and fixed it myself...I doubt you will get any joy going the garage repair route I'm afraid as most places will just want to replace the whole CIM module which requires new keys and coding etc.

Its not the easiet DIY but depends on your own motivation(cost!) and willingness to learn.

There are a lot of jobs were the CIM module has to be removed (eg clock spring) so there is lots of stuff on youtube to help
There are switch packs each side of the CIM module and are crude in design.
One of the contact prongs will have come adrift (they look like the ends of small forks).
The switch pack itself may have come apart and simply needs reattaching although you wont know until you take it apart.
You can buy a used CIM without keys and transplant across or just the switch pack on ebay if you hunt around.
Some sellers buy complete CIM units and then sell the component parts eg
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAAB-93-9-3- ... v#viTabs_0
In the above you will need to transplant your clock spring and main board across......

Buying a complete used CIM will give you additional spares (with or without keys) as the CIM is an achilles heel on the 9-3!
