As titled - we are trying to decide if our 76 99 EMS would have had black plastic centre caps or the chrome metal ones with black centre logo. A lot of the brochures show the chrome ones but some other cars we see have the black plastic ones.

If anyone has a good set of chrome ones I would be very interested.

I have a set of the black plastic ones to fit to the Soccerballs on Rose's 96, took me a while to find them.

If someone could 3D print a few sets, I bet there would be a reasonable market for them...

Hi, thanks for the reply, we already have a set of the plastic ones on the car but we can't help but think it would have had the other ones from factory, and yes I bet there would be a market for them.

I'm at work, but i'll check the parts book tomorrow, I'm almost certain the caps should be the stainless type, my '76 EMS has the stainless caps, although a little worse for wear, i am one short of a complete set of new caps, i must have at least 6 sets of new black caps. I

The pressed silver steel caps with Saab logo, part number 8929796, fitted to EMS/GLE from chassis # 752000001, these are the correct ones for your EMS (and mine), they can be very difficult to remove without deforming them, so bad in fact Saab offered a special tool to remove/replace them, tool part #8996167.

The early EMS had the plastic type cap, silver and blue, also fitted to Sonett soccerballs, part #8918823 (also 19 - 11239) up to chassis #742038672.

The black cap you have fitted at present is actually a V4 part for the soccerball, part #8938631 or 4 piece set # 105118509. These were also offered for the 99 soccerball in the Sport and Rally catalogue, so in a roundabout way they are correct for your EMS

My 'S' reg EMS has the steel type caps fitted and I believe them to be original. Like Dave says, they're virtually impossible to remove without damaging (trust me, I've had a good go!) so I'd be interested to hear if anyone on here has the tool that Saab offered for their safe removal. I hope to have the wheels refurbished at some point and assume this will have to be done without the caps fitted.

My 74 EMS has the plastic silver and blue ones.
Someone had glued them in to the wheel centre on two of the wheels, so since having tyres fitted before the National, I have two centres to repair.
My 76 has the black ones.

They sound like the correct ones for your early EMS, they should have a single retaining clip across the diameter on the back.

That's right Dave, two wheels have the metal clips holding the centres in, but the other two are missing the clips and I'm guessing that's why someone glued the centres into the wheels.

What with there being quite a few posts about wheel centre caps and the possibility of 3D printing etc...

Any chance of a couple or a set of the black plastic centre caps for 99 turbo incas...?

Steve.

I'm going to look at getting some replicas made up (3D printed) - see HERE for more info.
