headlights both work again - just got to fix the indicators on the side and then MOT here we come (tester overlooked those last year but might not be so lucky this time).

All down to a faulty earth. Because the car is plastic the earths are all provided via cables to the battery in the rear of the car - plenty of opportunities for trouble. Because the lighting loom moves up and down with the pop up lights it is a common weakpoint and I will probably need to do a full re-wire of this area at some point. However all ok for the MOT :D
