As far as I have read in a few reference books - Cinnabar is the solid red that was on the 99T 2drs in 1979 / 80 (UK Market)

Cardinal Red was the colour that the 5dr 99Ts came in 1978 to the UK, and was available on non UK 3drs and on the EMS / GLE.

Carmine Red is a 1980 colour that some non UK market 2drs were available in..

In terms of the aero kit, I have seen 2 cars with in and I believe it was genuine Saab accessory (but dealer fit as most accessories were)

^^ What he said.

The bodykit is known as the Airflow kit and was a dealer fit option, it was not a factory option.

Full kit included an upper spoiler which I have very rarely seen fitted.

I had an Airflow kit fitted to the 99T I owned in the mid 90's. It was a second hand kit that was painted Cinnabar red.

I had it fitted and sprayed black by the bodyshop that used to fit and paint airflow kits for the local SAAB dealer when they were chosen as an option.

I've seen them fitted to 99's. Nearly bought a '74 99LE with one about four years ago.

No of course not, that's some after-market bodgery.

99 2 door turbos came only in cinnabar and black for the UK. They had no sunroof (which the 3-door came with) and pretty much no goodies, to keep weight down as they were a Group 2 Homologation Special.

Any sunroof on a 2 door would be dealer-fit or after-market, which really amount to the same thing as most dealers just jigsawed a hole in the panel and slapped a cheap glass tilting roof in. Which would later prompt a lot of rust....

Which illustrates perfectly why so few of them were ever fitted...hideous monstrosity tacked onto the 99 2 door shell, which I reckon is the prettiest Saab ever. Especially in EMS form

Al, there was a SAAB branded glass sunroof in the options catalogues of the time, but as with all of the options you are correct they were a dealer fit item.

Agreed and that's why I never fitted the one I picked up with the Airflow kit I fitted to mine.

I binned it, so its long gone into landfill somewhere in Cornwall.

Edit: Also agree re the EMS 8)

cheers - clears that up

I agree that spoiler is horrible.

personally the airflow kit isn't needed - car is pretty enough, and I prefer without it.

Still trying to convince myself to buy a 99T - as it was the car that got me into saabs in 1982 when my neighbour bought a black 2dr and took me for a ride.
but for the price I could buy some other very tasty saabs.

The 2 Door 99t's came as they were built. there were no factory options available at all (other than colour)

All extra's and accessories were dealer fit.

Even the colour wasn't really an option. There was a batch of red ones and a batch of black ones - you didn't get to choose one or the other, you got what was built depending on when you ordered.
