Hi,
Slowly getting my Finnish made Black/Tan/Tupperware c900 T16 ready for an mot with the possibility of selling in the future but I need to try keep the battery topped up in the meantime. I have a small solar powered top up charger that plugs into the cigarette socket but I need to know if the 12 volt socket is always live or does it only come on with the ignition? I'm away from the car for the next few weeks hence not being able to check it myself.

Thanks, James.

It's live on my '84 Finnish T16, but not on the '85 T16 or the '92 900i.
Why not just disconnect the battery?

Hi,
Thanks. Seems like it's more likely to be off the later they get. Trying to keep it as simple as possible for my elderly father who starts and moves it periodically.

Cheers, James.

Pull earth lead off battery
or
connect direct to battery with length of wire and croc clips or vise grips.

Assuming your panel has a control circuit to stop draining at night

That's a *very* fancy name for a diode
