Guys ... a slight change to the usual date. The last Tuesday of March is actually Easter Tuesday, so we've decided to move the gathering on a week to the 1st April. This is fine, because April is a five Tuesday month and the last Tuesday of April (four weeks after) will be fine for our April gathering.

We've just over a month to organise this one - are we happy with the venues? I think The Tramshed is a good meeting point - reasonable car park, safe, an open bar with few places people can hide away making it a good meeting point. Fanny's is fun and a curry seems popular. On the last meet, we tweaked the timings a little to tip the balance towards having longer at the curry house. Was that good? I'd like to hear from the people who've attended so far and also the opinions of people in the district who would like to come along - at the moment, the meeting point seems good, so why mess with that.

So, same as the last time ...

Where?
The Old Tramshed (known locally as "The Tramshed") on Saltaire roundabout.

How do I get there? Click:

Time for some plain Yorkshire speak. WEST YORKSHIRE SAABISTS PLEASE DON'T LET THE SIDE DOWN. Put your name on the list and then honour it and come along :) It's that straightforward. The Lancashire guys are being very supportive in the aim of developing WYSE. If they drive over to be with us and then nearly outnumber us, what does that say? :?

Paul and I started this as nobody else showed any initiative. In Bradford because it's our neck of the woods. We've no wish to run the group, elect leaders and all such guff. Our thoughts were to set the ball rolling and see how things grew. If for instance a strong Leeds contingent developed we'd be happy to move the gathering to Leeds. It's an informal gathering of West Yorkshire Saab Enthusiasts. Once a month come along, have a drink and a chat with fellow Saab appreciators.Talk Saab, swop info, trade spares, discuss cars, bikes, kids, home, sport, IT systems, divorce, football, health, obscure punk bands, food, film, real ales, work (the recovery room nurse you are trying to bed  ). It's that easy. :D

If the venue, date, times are a problem they can be changed. You just have to be there to have your say.

Edit:- Paul has pointed out the above could be interpreted wrongly. This isn't about some sort of class register with ticks for attendance and black marks for not. That is diametrically opposed to what we're about. It's just very frustrating, when having floated something for the benefit of the West Yorks Saab community, it responds and says 'yes we're with you' and then come the time dosen't join in. The idea is to develop a personal real life community out of the virtual community we now have. We all drive Saabs; to get together and drive them in a group is fun. It's your shout.

... to follow on from that, from the outset the West Yorkshire SAAB Enthusiasts (WYSE) was named so to put a kind of "banner" over the various events and days out that we have already had. From the outset, I hoped the name would be used by anyone in West Yorkshire wanting to do something SAAB related - feel free to use the name if you want to organise your own do and we'll turn up.

Once we get into the spring and summer, we hope to have some good days out. Anyone can organise something - we're not an official "club", or anything like that

I'll take that as a slap on the wrist then Bonzo. Seriously, I should have turned up but I really had "had a better offer"

Anyway, the good lady is sorting her shifts out so I can come sans ankle-biters. Don't think Fannys would take too kindly to me trooping my offspring in. My daughter is a bit of a curry monster though, and would eat spicy food that makes braver men walk away!

So take this as a possible for now, to be updated.

Al

Al - You did let me know, so you're marked down on the register as "submitted notice of absence"

Last time we stuck to the timings reasonably well (give or take half an hour), so if anyone does want to come along for part of the evening (like just for the curry) then by all means please do - we're happy to alter the venues and locations depending upon who comes along, but for now we seem to have a pretty good meeting point and format.

Hmmm.................. prepare to be disappointed Chris. My theory based on the West Yorks experience, is that Fliptop is an internet phenomenon only. He is IMHO a virtual manifestation, a sort of second lifer on UKSaabs. He threatens to appear in the flesh, but never materialises; ergo he doesn't exist in real life only in cyberspace

Knock ... Knock ... less than a week to go, guys ...
If the venue is wrong, date inconvenient, or whatever please do let me know ... any of that can be changed. Personally, I'd prefer something over Halifax/Huddersfield side, but what we've got so far is nicely accessible.

This time, the format is much the same ... meet 7:30 in't evening at The Tramshed, move onto Fanny's down the road for a real beer ... walk back up to the car park at The Tramshed and into Manningham (just outside the town centre) for a curry from around 9:30. Full instructions at the top of the topic. We've got some good news this time - the former owner of the K2 Restaurant has been pressed out of retirement by his son (who is having a short holiday). This guy makes the best Chicken Madras in the world. HIs son's efforts are excellent, so he's been taught well, but a lifetime's practice shows Dad to be the master 8) He used to make me a damn night fish curry once I'd got bored of Chicken Madras every day for well over nine months   No seriously ... it was. Should I revisit the fish curry or a good old Chicken Madras? Bah! Both, I think

Anyone not wanting a drink, or maybe work over ... feel free to join up at the curry house. This time, we've a little planning to do ... one or two days out in the spring ... something for summer ... all ideas welcome.

Oh, and don't forget to bring your Nelson Muntz "Har! Har!" pointing fingers with you for when Murray arrives in his new pocket rocket

I've just heard from Steve who won't be along tomorrow, due to family commitments, nor Neal ... what with his nursing commitments
Thanks again for the support given from those guys and the others from the Lancashire SOC. The evening is wide open then for more of us West Yorkshire SAABers to come along ...

Second that, shame. Particularly as I'm currently hunting something on evil bay from Oswaldtwistle and thought if I won it a Lancs taxi might deliver tomorrow. Not surprised though, lack of eating irons in the curry house did it IMHO
