Mildly off-topic, but ...

I have been contacted by a former SAAB enthusiast in Peebles (he's since gone over to Jaguars) who is having a clear out and has what he describes as "a pile of original SAAB brochures" that he would like to pass on.

EDIT: Apologies if you were gearing up to respond on this, but while said enthusiast was out, "another member of the household" sent all the brochures for recycling this morning :argh: !

Cheers,
Derek

Just a quick update.
I am currently waiting on 3 more camping forms.
I've received payment from most folks.

I hope to have the last camping forms in the next few days, and will probably get the entry in by mid March.

We currently have 8 cars on Saturday, and a total of 15 on Sunday, if no one has to call off.
Given that it's early days, that may of course happen. Sometimes life gets in the way of classic car enjoyment!

I also have one other couple, who might make it, but can't commit yet.

Friday night I think it will just be myself and Paul Tuffnell eating at the Strathmore, and it looks like 13 eating on Saturday night.
Just to confirm those eating on Saturday night is as follows.
Please let me know if I have got this wrong:-

Andy
Paul Tuffnell (Redsaabs)
Dave and Donna
Jim Martin. (STig)
Robert Crawford (Crocs)
Magrew and Mrs Magrew
Lucais and Louisa
Robert Greig
Barry Greig
Callum Thomson (Kraken)

Just to clarify that it’ll be me and A N Other for the meal on Saturday, in case you only counted one.

Ah, OK, and I forgot that my best mate, (who's in the Jaguar world), will also be joining us, so that makes 15.

The restaurant is not that big, I'd imagine that 15 would be roughly the maximum, that would allow us all to sit at one table.
They are however, refurbishing the whole place, before July, so perhaps the restaurant will get bigger, or perhaps we'll
just have to sit at two tables. Not the best, but not the end of the world.

Great
I might know your mate as I had a 1949 Mk V Jaguar.

Ladies and Gents

I am about to put the entry in, it is as below.
Check your name is there.
I wasn't sure of the reg years of one or two cars, but I just guessed them from the reg number.
It's not that important...
Let's hope that the Coronavirus crisis has eased by July.

I now have all the signed camping forms, but I'll hold back a couple of days, let me know if there are any serious omissions/mistakes..

Update, just had a new entry from John, of Fife. He has a beautiful white SAAB 96.
I will add his name to the form before I send it in, so we should have 16 cars on Sunday.

Andy

I have this morning been informed that the "How Many Left" show at Alford has been cancelled. It is in early May.

I have therefore E mailed the Glamis organisers this morning, to ask if they wanted entries to be sent in, or adopt a "wait and see" strategy.
They basically said it's up to me, and by extension, all of us, I suppose.

Does anyone object to sending the entry in anyway?
(They have confirmed that we would be refunded in the case of cancellation)

No I'd say send it in Mr Troll, you have done all the hard work in compiling it, so nothing to lose by submitting it. July is a long time away, hopefully things might have changed for the better by then...

I'm happy for you to send it in.

It may help influence a decision to continue if they take a view on number of entrants at some point in the future as to whether they continue with the event or not.

Go for it Andy - nothing to lose, and it may just go ahead !

I also heard about "How Many Left ?" today - shame, so many things falling by the wayside.
There's also a threat to the Inverness Classic Vehicle Show the previous day, not just from coronavirus but also from 'Green' city councillors who claim 'it doesn't portray the right message' - (supply your own expletive !).

I certainly suspected that the Inverness how would be at risk, but not from Tree Huggers!
Have these numpties, no sense of engineering history?

Anyway, the 0.5%, or so, of cars on the road today over 40 years old, collectively produce a minuscule amount of pollution, compared globally with the rest of the vehicles on UK roads. PLUS, driving old cars reduces carbon footprint, by refurbishing rather than replacing!
My car, at 42 years old, would have been replaced 10 or 15 times over in that time, by a "normal" punter.
Each new build, whether electric or petrol/diesel, would have a huge manufacturing carbon footprint.
Someone should go and explain that to these numpties! "Refurbish don't replace" is the buzz phrase.

Go on Derek, write a letter into the local paper in Inverness......

Shame if it is cancelled though, (which I'm sure it will be), a new show I hadn't been to before.
Fortunately I can cancel the hotel right up to the last day.

I like the shows that take part in city streets.
They had one in Perth a couple of years ago.
It included a cavalcade drive through the streets, and ended at Scone Palace.
A great day, but it was a one of.

I don't think anyone is going to object, I'll go ahead and post the application tomorrow.

Regards

Andy

Just seen this. I’m happy for it to be sent and, if cancelled, just keep the fiver and use it for the next one.

Had to smile about the pollution. I could fumigate the whole place!

Just heard that the BVAC show at Thirlestane first weekend of June has been cancelled, so I'd regretfully expect that Glamis will go the same way. Other local shows have also been cancelled.

Doive et al

Aye, I just got the notification about Thirlestane as well.
I expect Moffat to go the same way, and I'll be surprised if Glamis doesn't also get canned. -UPDATE. Moffat has been cancelled.

It's a darned shame that the Selkirk show is not on this year, it was always around mid September, by which time we would hope(?), that things might be getting better.
Ladybank (Fife) might be OK, since it's in late August
We shall see.

If the Glamis show is totally cancelled, I'll ask if this year's entry can simply be flipped over to next year.
When next year comes, if some folk who signed up this year, can't make it next year, I'm sure others could fill their places, so that they
get their money back.
