Colin, I've just picked up on this thread and am sorry to learn of this blow to Janis and yourself.

My father suffered two strokes and I was present when both occurred. The incidents were spread out over a number of years and each had a markedly different recovery period. It is good that there are already signs of improvement and as others have said when the brain encounters difficulty in sending messages by the usual route it can find ways to re-route the signals, though this may take time.

Main thing, she is still here. I'm sure you will be a great support to her but don't forget to take care of yourself too. Alison and I are thinking of you both and hope Janis's condition continues to improve and that before too long she will be home with you once more.

Kindest regards,
Ron & Alison.

Delighted that she is showing signs of recovery Colin :D But then I wouldn't expect anything less from Janis, she's a tenacious wee wumman 8) You are both very much in our thoughts and we'll be over to see Janis when she is ready for visitors.
Take care mate,
Stevie & Ali xx

Probably because you'd forgotten the eggs, butter and sugar.

how was she supposed to make the anniversary cake without them?

Best wishes... Like others on here we've had strokes in the family and it's amazing how well they can be treated now. Takes time though - hope the improvements continue steadily...

So sorry to hear your news Colin. Our Wishes for a speedy and not to frustrating recovery. Like most on here have experienced strokes in the family, but this was 12+ years ago and treatments have definately improved since then.

Wee update, she is off some of the medication so her speech is better, pneumonia is under control + her temperature is down, no movement on her whole L side but they have started physiotherapy and they look to have got the severity of the spasms under control that had been that bad that they had dislocated some of her toes/ badly bruised her palm and fingers.

They have started to talk about moving her to a more local stroke rehabilitation unit for more specialised care once they get things more stabilised and to reduce the 80 mile journey each day.

Thanks again for all the kind thoughts 8)

Oh mate I am so glad the news is on the up and sounding promising, of course it will be awhile before things are anything like normal again but at least there is a road back to that place.
