i've just bought a 9-3 aero. its a 53 plate, registered in feb 2004.

is it likely to suffer from the sludge problem. and how do i know what ?PCV? system i have (as i believe the later type stopped the sludging?)

engine sounds sweet and runs well! very quiet. reading 79k miles

2004 will be the new shape, if so no sludge problem.

The 9-3 from the new shape in late 2002 are totally different. They don't use the Saab based engine that sludges up!! :)

Yes, different lump. A shorter stroke of the 2.2 Ecotec, found typically in the Omega, Vectra and VX220, but the engine management is pure Saab.
