Update event planning!

The intention of organising 17th January worldwide Save Our Saab Support Events is to provide an opportunity to give a voice to the united Saab car owners. The Convoys are informing the media well in advance to get maximum attention for this coming event and to put pressure on the media to start an open discussion on the sale of Saab. GM has asked revised bids to be put in before 7th January. They will not make a decision in 1 day time....

To celebrate 62 years of engineering excellence we've added an informal Car Show with selection of the 50 best examples of this legacy.

The meeting at Saab UK Luton headquarters is the UK main event.
After the Meeting in Luton, a cavalcade is added to the Imperial War Museum in Duxford featuring a scenic tour and a venue that is used to accommodate car clubs.
The visit to Duxford is not compulsory for all attending vehicles, but an add-on for those who want to make it an even more interesting day trip , all on a voluntary basis.

At arrival in Duxford the selected 50 will be exhibited on the airfield premises with the Imperial War Museum and British Battle of Britain Heritage as backdrop.

With a quarter of the population of the UK living in greater London, we must assume that with an event north of London, conveniently located near a major route, it must be possible for a large group of Saabs to attend.

Day planning:
Details at a glance:
·· From Midlands, Northern areas -
8.30am-9.00am M1 Jct 15a - Northampton Services (Rotherthorpe)

· From London, Kent and Essex areas -
9.00am-9.30am M25 Jct 23 - South Mimms Services

· From West, South-West areas -
8.00am-8.30am M4 between Jct 12 and 11 – Reading Services

· Proceed to Luton via M1, Jct 10

· 10.00 - 11.00 - Meeting of Saab owner convoys CAR PARKING and line up of cars
· at Stockwood Park, Discovery Centre London Road LU1 4LX Luton

· 11.00 - 12.00 – Time for meet and greet, Car Show, photo shoots, etc.

· 12.00 - > - Depart of Cavalcade for Drive by to the Saab UK Headquarters,
Griffin House Osborne Road Luton Bedfordshire, LU1 3YT

· Proceed via A505 to Imperial War Museum, Duxford

· 13.00 onwards – Arrival at Duxford Museum and line-up of 50 cars
· Best examples of 62 years Saab car history in front of Wing Co Joe’s Café
· Raffle of Saab memorabilia

So get your beasts of burden out of the shed, your precious race horses out their stable, your beloved and faithfulls out in the open and show the world where Saabs were built for!
To enjoy the freezing cold fresh air, the open roads and the sweeping landscape!

Thanks all for your help, suggestions and comments, after all, WE will have to make this work!

Cheers,
Josephine

Also there is a company that i use to print Polo and T Shirts near me. (Embroidery By Design)

She does things at short notice and a brilliant job.

Can do things cheaper if they are in amounts of 12, its the number of machines she has and the amount they can take at one time i think is how that works.

Now, i will need to double check this but i think a good quality Polo with a Logo and literature on the back or front is less than £10.

Let me know what you think.

Very good Idea Saabman 65. Please put you info on the Artwork for Convoy thread in the Coffee bar part of the forum, to keep info as much as possible organised and available!

Please dont forget we have members of this very site who do this sort of thing.
Perhaps a PM to them first may be in order to keep things freindly.
If the timescale is to short notice for them, then it should be ok to use others I would have thought.

Just a thought.

The list is comming on nicely...............STILL NEED MORE THOUGH.

Hi All, Thanks for keeping the information on the list concise, please let this one grow fast over the coming days!
My logistic manager, Malc, is drawing up a map with easy routes for approach to Luton. In the circumference of 80 miles from Luton, as the crows fly, live about 20 million Britons.
We must be able to have a good turn-out!
Keep the Griffin Up!

Location: Whitley Bay or Hamilton. SAAB Treks willingly undertaken on a weekly basis.
We just received this from the Dealer Principal at Cambridge SAAB, James Howarth.

Quote:
Dear Saab Drivers

As the local Saab dealer here in Cambridge we would like to offer some support toward the proposed Saab drive from Griffin House on Sunday January 17th..... not sure what is planned but could some one make contact with us?.......we would be happy to cover the cost of a cup of coffee or tea perhaps with a piece of special Saab cake? on arrival at Duxford for everyone who could present a Saab key? (our dealership is just 3 miles from Duxford)..please make contact and we will get something organised for the catering at the Duxford Air Museum

We could also arrange for some local PR

Regards

James
James Howarth

Great support, highlighting the fact that we're all in this together. Although, unlike James & his team, most of us won't be at risk of losing their jobs if SAAB goes down.

I can't confirm whether I can come yet, but would love to do so.... the trip to Duxford is an enticement..

Grateful for support from them guys at Buckingham and Stanley, so nearly bought a car from them many times....I berated someone on Saabscene who dared to have a go at the OP for putting the same message on that forum :wall: because it's not technical :loco:
