HI,

I know someone raised this a while back but I can't find the thread. I have found a few old VHS tapes from when I had a camcorder 20 odd years ago and would like to copy them onto my PC and then onto DVD.

Someone on here tried one of the cheap eBay devices I seem to remember? Would be interested to know how well it worked. They vary in price massively and all seem to look pretty much the same thing. I don't want to spend a fortune as once I have copied 3 or 4 tapes it won't get used again.

Most of the reviews seem to criticise the software more than the device itself so any suggestions for free capture software would be good as well.

Thanks.

My dad has done this, he spent months last year converting VHS tapes to DVD.

So i brought something called "VHS to DVD", which was a retail boxed product that has a analogue input device that converts to USB and goes into a PC / Laptop.
It walks you through the steps with large simple graphics, and at the end it asks you to insert a DVD, and it burns that VHS capture to a DVD disk.

I think it was about 35 quid.
My dad is 75, and he managed this on his own, so it must be fairly simple.
Given the device is just analogue in, you can essentially copy anything with a analogue source. i.e. old Camcorders.

Edit, this is the one, although we didnt pay this much.

Thanks for that.

Someone selling a used V5 one for a starting bid of a fiver so that is worth keeping an eye on. (V7 is the latest but the older one will do the job I am sure)

If getting this Honestech one, you will need the license key for the software.
Its supplied in the original packaging.

Without that, its kinda useless.

Just made the Seller an offer and it has been accepted. It has the licence key. Be interesting seeing the family 20 years younger, videos I forgot I had!
