You had a 1.3 Sierra ??. Did it even move ?,
I once drove a 1.6 Sierra estate and it was the slowest thing ive ever driven. I could have actually jumped out and Jogged faster.

I used to drive a works truck and it was a P100 2.0 Pinto I think.
It did go sideways when no weight in the back.
Was on wet road, not been driving it long and it caught me out going around a roundabout...I controlled it very well considering never owned a rear wheel drive car before then.

1.3 Sierra looks like it's 54bhp

Hi Ian.

Yeah, 17" TSW Imola's on 215/45 rubber. They were cool around the year 2000, hehe.

Was that 2, 3 or 4*?

I note that 4* was rated at 97/8RON, which explains why a good deal of cars went to 16V on the introduction of unleaded at little more than 3* quality, to make up for the loss of power produced by 4* petrol? Not something I'd looked into before now?

From memory it was 3 star in the bike and 4 star (with 4 shots) in my dad's 6/90.

To be fair Ian I think the 1300 Sierra had a whole 59bhp.

I rented a 3 door 1300 Sierra (4 speed!) in the early 80s for a weekend trip from Dunfermline to Plymouth and return, a journey of around 1100 miles. Downhill the speedo read well into 3 figures. Luckily there was no rev counter to frighten me.

Did the high pitched, ear piercing scream from the front not tell you anything?

I feel guilty of a lot of this. I remember 5/- a gallon, but in my dads car. Seemed that price for years. I started at 33p/gallon, used to use 3 galls a week (£1) going to college in my Triumph Herald Another £ would take me and my mates down to the coast at the weekend..

Later (with a family) I also had a Sierra 1.6L estate (followed on from a 2.0GL Cortina estate, only changed as I was offered the Sierra at a very cheap price, it was very low mileage and 4 years newer). May have been Fords but I don't remember them giving me a lot of trouble.

I don't remember getting 4 gallons for a quid but I do remember 2* and 4*. I also remember owning 4 Sierras (a couple of Cortinas, a Couple of Capris, a Couple of Orions, a RWD Escort, a FWD Escort, a Mondeo....).

Back in the early noughties putting that engine in place of 12v 2.8s and 2.9s was all the rage. Turbos were rare though. i bet it goes OK, "Wrong" engine notwithstanding.

My dad had a series of Sierra's as company cars.

The last one was a burgundy 2.3 diesel five door.

When he was speccing it his final choice was between the ugraded stereo (with seperate amplifier below the head unit) or the power steering.

He, with my influence (I was also going to be on the insurance), chose the uprated stereo.

The first time my mum got in to drive it she couldn't turn the steering wheel it was that heavy.

The first taxi I drove was a 2.3 diesel Sierra. Thankfully it had power steering, (but not much power). Still it was more powerful than the 57bhp diesel Mk3 Cavalier.

Think 27p was the lowest I remember. Think it was in batley and they sold Coventry climax stuff. Also remember 5* petrol which my uncle bought from a jet garage on leeds road, Huddersfield. ....that maxi had a front wing held on with aroldite!
