I'm bored today so I thought I'd try to find a boring thread to start...

...Why is it that people refer to their cars as 'she'? Mines reliable, good looking, doesn't drink too much, knows its way to work, doesn't smoke and doesn't answer back. In all, definitely(southern) male. For (northern) male, please delete all and substitute[ drinks too much, smokes, talks too much and farts a lot]* also very definitely male.

Wot say you lot?

Peter

* none of which refers to Lord Wynn of Lancs who definitely seems to have a feminine side if you ask me.

Well I fancied calling the rag top Horace, but the ladies ridiculed that as an eccentric step too far. So I called my iPod Horace instead

Re The F*dgemasters feminine side, BIRDIEMANGO had some amusing observations along those lines, based on the blond highlights

OK - I tend to agree most mechanical thing are she's...boats etc

My 'vert is a she - sleek and good looking

But I have a problem with my 9-5 Estate. It's fast, comfortable and a workhorse [No - I DONT FANCY HORSES]. So the question remains, is the 9-5 a she. In my opinion it is a neutered she. But there again the 9-5 saved my family in a nasty side swipe a couple of months ago. I think it is a he - hardworking, strong, reliable and I feel very comfortable in a matey sort of way. Yep, it's a bloke.

Neither have a name tho :?

But Neal my grey highlights are natural, not an affectation

On topic, could an old style Volvo estate be feminine? Well only in the Russian shot putter realms of feminine  What's ladylike in a big Merc? Then there's Landys and Hummers to consider, all called either Tamara or Olga?  I did meet a woman owner of a Beetle 1303 who called it Terry :?

I think one excellent answer to this thread is summed up by the lyrics to Elvis' song - Spinout:

When her motor's warm, and she's purrin' sweet
Buddy let me warn ya', you're on a one-way street
She'll crowd ya' close, spin your wheels
Then you're gonna know how it feels
To spinout..spinout

Better watch those curves, never let her steer
If she can shake your nerves..boy
She can strip your gears
She'll get your heart, goin' fast
Then she'll let you run out of gas
So spinout...spinout

The road to love is full of, danger signs
Too many guys were lost
Who crossed those double lines

Doncha know she's out to prove, she can really score
Never saw parts move, boy
Like that before
To flag you down, that's her goal
Scoot before you lose control
And spinout...spinout!!!

My car's not a woman, it's a tool (not "my" tool  ) or a toy. It is therefore non-sexual.

For some, their car is an extension of their phallus, so I guess that should make it male? Or can phalli be female? Interesting....

English and cars don't really mix: you go...

on a bus...
on a train...
on a plane...
in a car...

Anthropomorphisizing vehicles eventually leads to Thomas the Tank-Engine, Jimbo Jet, Budgie the helicopter, etc.,. My kids were watching 'Rory the Racing Car' this morning: the eponymous hero has a racing-car mate called...

...wait for it...

...'Maxi'! I take it the writers are foreign or weren't very old in the 1970's :)
